Would someone please remind me again how many of today's Hollywood elite put their careers on hold to enlist in Iraq or Afghanistan?

The only one who even comes close was Pat Tillman, who turned down a contract offer of $3.6 million over three years from the Arizona Cardinals to enlist in the US Army after September, 11, 2001 and serve as a Ranger in Afghanistan, where he died in 2004.

This is not the America today that it was seventy years ago.

God Bless every one of them!  ::victory::  ::clapping::

::USA:: Thanks for sharing, looking at today's rejects currently being bandied about as role-models, it really puts things in perspective on how far this country has slidden backwards.

Fred Rodgers also.

The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

In trying to find military info on Fred Rogers, also saw he was from Latrobe, Penn. and that reminded me of another from Latrobe -- none other than a legend of golf, Arnold Palmer.  'Arnie' dropped out of Wake Forest early and joined the Coast Guard in 1950 [Korean War then] becoming a E4 Yeoman. [As pictured]

[somewhere I read a story about Palmer; besides being a ['fair' golfer'{yes smart a*s remark} when a close friend of his died he got out of service at the end of his enlistment, went back to Wake Forest, did not graduate but did become a pro golfer in 1954 [surprise, surprise} - I think that served him well !!]
