Krauthammer on Jay Carney Quote
« on: February 08, 2014, 09:05:59 AM »
Conservative columnist Charles Krauthammer made the bold proclamation on Wednesday that the comments White House press secretary Jay Carney made in response to the recently-released CBO report on Obamacare will be “emblazoned on the tombstone of liberalism.”

Here’s the statement made by Carney that he is referring to:

“Opportunity created by affordable, quality health insurance allows families in America to make a decision about how they will work, or if they will work.”

“He says opportunity. This is what he’s heralding in this achievement, that the government is giving opportunity for people to decide if they want to work. This is the liberals’ ideal of the opportunity society,” Krauthammer said. “Of course, in a free society, you can decide if you want to work, but what Obamacare does, and so the essence of liberalism, is you can choose not to work, and the people who do work end up subsidizing you.”

In other words, he explained, the people who work “have to send their money to the government” so they can redistribute it to the people who choose, “in this ideal new opportunity society,” not to work.

We have been headed down that path since Lyndon Johnson's 'great socieity' of the middle to late 1960's or before.  Woodrow Wilson and/or Franklin Roosevelt come to mind.
All gave some -- Some gave all    Humbled to be one of the 33 original members of the Coast Guard Honor Guard, started in 1962.

It started when we graciously allowed the Marxists fleeing the Nazis in the 30's to emigrate and then infiltrate our university systems (not that we didn't already have a willing and waiting batch of transcendentalists already here ready to take up the socialist banner). It was compounded by the likes of Ken Kesey and his ilk that spread the self-absorbtion ethos all over this nation via our entertainment industry.

It's been a long slow transformation that has created the pathetic culture of us, and it will take a while to undo if it isn't too late.
Democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not.
