His collaboration with classical guitarist Al DiMeola on DiMeola's "Mediterranean Sundance"  was my first real exposure to super-shredder acoustic guitarists. For a whole summer when I was about 19 that album never left my tape deck.

Flamenco Guitarist Paco De Lucia, 66

Legendary Spanish guitarist Paco de Lucia, who is credited with transforming the folk art of flamenco into a more vibrant modern sound, has died. He was 66...

...A proponent of the New Flamenco style, de Lucia's career is defined by crossover collaborations with guitarists such as Eric Clapton, John McLaughlin and Al Di Meola, and jazz pianist Chick Corea.

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Shame I never heard of him. I haven't listened to Al DiMeola since my cassette/LP days. For some odd reason, he didn't make it to my digital library.

This trio was my introduction to the talents of this guy.  RIP.  The 60's is just too young.   :'(
