Red Shouldered Hawk...they look like this -

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Red-shouldered_Hawk

...landed on my bush at the front window of my house, between it and the front step I have a bird bath the little buggers like to use...

...same bird I saw hunting in the neighborhood last spring...

...their diet can include Doves and Chipmunks and we have Mourning Doves and Chipmunks aplenty!

I hope he gets most of the Chipmunks!

Nice looking bird, not all noisy either...he likes stealth and quickness...I admire that in a predator.

We have a couple around here.
Beautiful and nice to watch.

There's a hawk that frequents the wooded office park where I work, and I have witnessed it flying around with squirrels in its talons, then perching on a branch and meticulously pulling all the fur off the squirrel. I don't know if it's one of these or a red-tailed hawk. Pretty amazing to watch right in the middle of a very urban area.

Urban areas often lack ground predators, l am surprised more raptors are not exploiting the situation, it is a buffet of rodents & smaller\slower birds.
