EPA asserts authority to garnish wages of "polluters"

The EPA is now asserting its authority to directly garnish wages of those it has fined for "pollution".  I use scare quotes because you are well aware of what they have shown themselves prepared to call "pollution" -- i.e. people using rain barrels or building ponds in their yard, and in one particularly egregious case accusing a couple of damaging a wetland when it was nothing more than heavy rain creating large puddles.

Here's the real take home message from this story:

The amount of fines raked in by the agency has jumped from $96 million in 2009 to $252 million in 2012, a more than 160 percent increase, according to EPA annual reports.

Gee. What a big surprise.
