This guy knew baseball talent and how to get the best from it. RIP!

"I remember taking the team bus to the ballpark in Los Angeles for the first game of the 1966 World Series," Brown said. "We passed a billboard that read, 'Would you believe four straight?' Nobody said much about it. A week later we were back in Baltimore, having won the first three games — and the Dodgers' bus turned onto 33rd Street toward Memorial Stadium to see a sign that read the same thing.

"Cashen had ordered that sign without telling anyone — and damned if we didn't win."

I like stories like this!   ::thumbsup::

R.I.P. Frank.

Wasn't Earl Weaver managing those teams?
Can't remember a lot of those players but I think Brooks Robinson played 3rd.
He was a ball player.
But, the Pirates beat them in the 1971 World Series.
What a contrast in a manager styles.
Pirates had Danny Murtaugh who was about as laid back as anyone could be compared to fiery Earl Weaver

Yup, Earl.

Cashen also won with the Mets.

Frank was one of the great ones.
The Orioles dominated the AL for most of the '60s as well as the '70s

I can't say dominated but they competed for the top spot every year. When that pos Peter Angelos got hold of the team it went down hill fro a long time and only now that they have a guy like Buck Showalter at the helm do you have the feeling he knows what's going on.

Frank definitely traded for guys that fit in as the team needed. It was never about the superstar but what some player could add to the team in terms of mentality and that is a part of winning.

Anyway, we in Baltimore have Frank to thank for the fond memories. RIP
