Massachusetts Goes Full Retard

Not that it was a long trip, mind you.

Quote
The gun law that emerged from the conference committee in Massachusetts has the state’s anti-gun politicians, mostly but not all Democrats, thrilled; it makes the right to have any gun at all, including a single-shot shotgun, subject to police discretion.

The law erases, or, pending court action we might say attempts to erase, the 2nd Amendment from the rights of subjects of and visitors to the Bay State and converts them into a privilege bestowed, or not, by a police official; although the cop must seek a rubber stamp from a Massachusetts court to deny the right. This was not a near-run thing: the vote was extremely lopsided, 122-29 in the state House and 37-3 in the state Senate.

A denied person can appeal — to an anti-gun Massachusetts judge. Already, police oathbreakers throughout the Bay State are high-fiving over their new authoritah. Police already had unfettered discretion over hand guns and semi-automatic centerfire rifles, the possession of which requires a pistol permit under the state’s byzantine gun laws.

It will never hold up. Not in today's 2A judicial climate. If DC and Chicago can be turned, then any place can be turned. Read this, it will warm your heart.

Quote
Gun-control advocates are learning the downside of getting their way. Recently, a federal judge struck down the District of Columbia's ban on the carrying of concealed handguns. Anti-gun forces have been losing in legislatures for a long time. Now they are finding that even where they win, they lose.

Washington used to have the strictest gun laws in America. Besides the prohibition of concealed guns, all firearms had to be registered and handgun ownership was forbidden.

The restrictions had no evident effect on crime: In the 1990s, the nation's capital was known as the murder capital. But they invited a legal challenge -- a historic one, as it happened. In 2008, the Supreme Court invalidated the city's handgun ban as a violation of the Second Amendment.

It was the first time the court had recognized that individuals have a constitutional right to own firearms for the purpose of self-defense. It was also a drastic shift in the court's view of the Second Amendment, which for decades had been treated as a forgettable footnote.

No one forgets it anymore. After striking down the law in D.C. -- a special case, being under federal jurisdiction -- the court overturned a similar ban in Chicago, ruling that the Second Amendment curbs the power of the states to regulate gun ownership.

Prohibiting most guns was no longer permissible. Left unclear was what other regulations were allowed. The court said there is nothing wrong with barring gun sales to felons and the mentally ill or with keeping guns out of schools and government buildings. But beyond that was terra incognita.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

May be true Trap, but with Duh Wun making law on the fly and ignoring courts when it suits him, there is a growing disconnect between legitimate lawlessness and the courts being able to enforce efforts to curb it.  Clearly Congress is MIA on a host of issues so really in the end what is going to stop the progs, a piece of paper?  If I we're in Massachusetts I'd be amassing allies for an armed march on the statehouse.

GOAL (the state gun lobby in MA) actually endorsed this, after apparently successfully preventing a  worse" version from getting out of committee. They, and quite a few at our club, feel this is a win!
I don't think I'll be finding anyone to join me.

They still have to enforce it - and that only happens when the anti gun forces and the pro-gun forces line up and shoot it out. They want a war, they will get a war.

Man, that's sad...not much of a club ya got there.  There has to be others there, might be one of those things that you see one guy marching, and another comes out to join him, etc etc...

One can only hope so anyway...

Keep in mind it took over 30 years for the courts to overturn the anti- 2nd laws in Chicago.    It could be in force for decades if you wait for relief from the courts.

Chicago has to be sued again with its new laws on gun shops.   There won't be any legal guns shops in Chicago anytime soon.

Why doesn't a community just across the city limit line put up a big sign saying "No Chicago residents allowed without a transit permit!" and enforce it!  Keep that trash corralled in their Soviet city!!!

Typical progressive behavior. Set a goal, go way past what would be acceptable only to settle for.your goal. Despite a century of demonstration, the right still has yet to learn this tactic.
f**k them, damn them to progtard hell.
