The article is a bit esoteric and simplistic, but the debate over the viability of the carrier fleet has been with us since the start of the Cold War.

Clearly many of the same principles are in play - being able to project power and provide military options and be able to protect assets from harm.  The technologies, methods and tactics to honor those principles is the evolution required to maintain viability and all three have to be aggressively pursued, otherwise we are just fooling ourselves and are not serious about it.

There are ways to beat A2/AD systems and it would involve decoys (real and electronic) stealthy pedatory drones, sub-launched mini-drones etc etc.  And if someone went to great lengths to actually succeed in sinking a US carrier, well, then they cannot be too surprised to see in-kind escalating strategic responses and outright full-blown world warfare now can they?
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
