Actor Rod Taylor dies in Los Angeles at 84

If hard-pressed to offer a brutally honest opinion I would have to admit that I never thought Rod an outstanding actor. But I would temper that with the admission that he starred in my of my favorite movies as a kid including my all-time favorite, "The Time Machine". A surprisingly large part of the convincibility of an actor (for better or worse) is whether he/she is innately attractive or not. Guys like Karl Mauldin and W.C. Fields had to work at acceptance even when their talents were great whereas someone like Tom Cruise is lauded even when he is a hack.

Rod Taylor was handsome and glamorous - all of which were oblivious to me as a 7 year old viewer of "The Time Machine". All I knew was that he made the role convincing and I was forever touched by the Sci-Fi bug.

He also played a role in "World Without End" and "The birds", which were other favorites.

Rest In Peace Mr. Taylor

Indeed, RIP, sir.

*sigh*  I'm not getting older, I'm just getting more bio-degradable.  And today's my 61st birthday.  Shhhhh.

I'm only a couple of months ahead of you (and feeling the weight of the ages). I hope you have a pleasant day!

Happy Birthday, Pan.

61?

You're just a kid.
Be 65 in a couple months.

I tell my kids that I'm not old.
But I can see it from where I'm standing

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

BOT - I agree with 'Soup, The Time Machine was awesome, loved that movie as a kid!

And another one, a face most people will recognize even if they don't know the name passed away young after losing a battle with cancer.

Happy Birthday  Pandora! Still feisty as ever.
And it sounds like, at 45, I'm the young punk around here!
