American Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM for short) defined a new mental illness, the so-called “oppositional defiant disorder” or ODD.

According to the manual, ODD is defined as: […] an “ongoing pattern of disobedient, hostile and defiant behavior,” symptoms include questioning authority, negativity, defiance, argumentativeness, and being easily annoyed."
"New mental illnesses identified by the DSM-IV include arrogance, narcissism, above-average creativity, cynicism, and antisocial behavior. In the past, these were called 'personality traits,' but now they’re diseases. And there are treatments available."
This is some scary sh*t, and just the tool Fascists and Communists crave to possess in order to cull their populations of any who would defy their enlightened rule, no matter how despotic and evil it may appear to the rabble on the street!

The rampant use of medication is cited in the article, and while I do not subscribe to widespread conspiracy or a paranoid aversion of all forms of medicine like a Scientologist...I can admit to being concerned about the apparent overmedication of children and the easy reliance upon and access to antidepressants, I think in some cases of significant severity treatment is a good thing, but there is no doubt America is a pill-happy paradise, so...that mindset to me seems conditioned into most of the populace and therefore plays into to the hands of statists who may want to exploit this weakness.

Dr. Levine then concludes that the direction in which the system has evolved is indeed reminiscent of a 'Sovietization'; just as the ruling classes once employed an authoritarian religious establishment to enforce compliance with the status quo, they can nowadays rely on psychiatry to do the job: “What better way to maintain the status quo than to view inattention, anger, anxiety, and depression as biochemical problems of those who are mentally ill rather than normal reactions to an increasingly authoritarian society." So authoritarians financially marginalize those who buck the system, they criminalize anti-authoritarianism, they psychopathologize anti-authoritarians, and they market drugs for their 'cure.' "
