Interesting Discussion.
I don't think we are going to get there, because the collapse is going to create a new dark age where human focus goes to preserving knowledge rather than broadening it.. .

But even if we had the free energy , replicators etc,  they suggest  the ability to control others will still be a hot commodity. Power will become the only thing that is still scarce.  But 90%  of the population will WANT to be controlled, and be addicted to drugs, porn, sexbots and holodeck adventures, so I am not even sure that will be true.  I think we are seeing it already in Japan.  There is no work to be done. The economy is over. Both men and women have lost interest in each other.

After the singularity the future of the human race is going to be decided by a very small interested minority who still try to accomplish something real. (And most people will look funny at you for trying to do something in the real world.. its so much harder..)

The "End of Times"? Great, the Lord will finally come to save us all from this evil. ::thumbsup::
Remember, four boxes keep us free:
The soap box, the ballot box, the jury box, and the cartridge box.

Singularity?

I'd like a real singularity to suck all progs into an eternal shredder!  Any other event just doesn't measure up and leaves me going "meh!"...
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
