I've already done this one, simple one word answer - No.

If they are truly needy (elderly), I have no problem. And then I have grown children that I can always abuse physically that would be welcome. Other than that, later gator.

I got the impression they were the same age, young enough to fend for themselves and should have been intelligent enough to have more than the paltry crap the schlepped over with...

I could see taking a youte in, perhaps they could be educated and trained to help the cause, or a woman of breeding age...otherwise it is resource-draining without any benefit...

But taking in has to be safe and rare and monitored closely...some clever locusts might want to get somebody in on the inside...

This is pretty simple analysis. "What can you do for me" - If you aren't going to be of any help in growing food, providing security, or delivering some other service (doctor?) in the future without the danger of being killed in the night and my stuff looted,  then it is not worth my food and effort keeping you alive now.
Trustworthy and beholden to me?  Maybe I say yes.  Some one who I have seen lie, vote democrat or believes in socialism and the collective ownership of slaves  as part of their "fair share"  better get off my lawn.

And its pretty simple to tell one from the other.  Are they  offering to do something for you in exchange for help ( even stating an intent to do so later)  or are they demanding you help them out of kindness, duty, or fairness.  Doing the former won't even occur to a liberal, and that makes them easy to sort.

There will always be plenty to do.  Carrying water.  Doing the dangerous trip into town for the XYZ .  Walking the late night shift patrol. Mucking the Stalls.  Feeding and watering the animals.  If they aren't pulling their weight after a week of free food, then you know what to do. And for me a week of food is the most I will pay.

I would concur with that.

There are going to be members of the extended family that, if they make it to the BOL are going to be more drag than pull...I am not going to go out of my way to create more imbalance that threatens all.

PS-I plan on taking the night shift.   ;)

Yea, night shift probably isn't for the "trial period"  - but if you don't think you could ever trust that person with night shift and there isn't something else they can do you really need,  then you shouldn't have them around.

Family will always be difficult ( you don't choose them)  but they are part of the family because someone in the family cares about and for them. Use that relationship into pressuring them to come up to speed. Family politics will get even worse during Teotwawki - but now there is a very real prospect of being booted from the island if they don't fall in line, and being booted will have much more severe consequences.  Sheep adapt very quickly to what the herd is doing - you might find even the most vocal liberal in your family will change their ways when immersed in a new post SHTF culture - not because of any chane of heart, but because that is what the other animals are doing now ( Most rank and file Libtards have no loyalty to the ideology.  They appear  committed to it because it strokes their ego and its what they see as "mainstream" - the herd says its true.... but its a go along to get along philosophy , and in post SHTF they may continue to go along to get along and seek their ego stroking in other ways ( hopefully healthy ones that involve actually doing something worthwhile) that their new herd demands.

But I could be wrong.. If my mother had chosen to remain married to my stepdad, she would still have access to my children, and I would still be tolerating her presence at family occasions.  It was her divorce that made it possible to cut her limb from the family tree, and nothing in her attitude has changed - if anything she is more entrenched and has taken to calling me closed minded because I require that someone prove me wrong - using a reasoned argument citing  facts and evidence, with an opportunity to counter-argue and have that rebutted  before I change my mind. You see, "life is too short" to argue with me, but it isn't too short to hold a gun to my head and demand that I buy the right kind of health insurance....and besides overseas worse things are happening  so  I should accept her lesser bullying for my own good.   I hope she shows up on my lawn post SHTF just so I can tell her to go ask Obama for help, maybe he will send some goons to my house to steal some things for her (  for my own good of course.  )
