They've had trouble with this spillway over the years...and initially passing on concrete in favor of earth...well, sure...what could go wrong?

Rocks and sandbags to the rescue!  Seriously?

Not really a "natural" disaster,  sounds like a man made one.   Sounds like a typical neglected publicly owned property.

This is why cutting basic maintenance (to "save" money) never ever works.   Because you always have to pay.  I bet those helicopters and such will cost far more then the money "saved" by not doing basic maintenance over the years.

Government sucks at everything.

I don't know what would be worse...being stuck on that with a bunch of bangers and reconquista invaders...or when the big one hits?

Probably the former, the latter has the benefit of being over quicker.

Which runs on standard speed speed limiting track which negates the speed benefit of the train.  Typical flushing of cash down the libtard drain.

I don't think any of the architects or engineers envisioned the possibility of the dam actually filling to the brim. Couple that with substandard maintenance and "dry-run" emergency procedures and voila! Edge of your seat entertainment!

I'm betting that it was no fun for the tens of thousands who were rousted from their homes and sent out into the cold and dark last night.

Apparently this has been an issue for the past 12 years when they were 1st warned, and ignored, the problem. You would think a Democratic state...where Hillary's supposed "popular" vote originated would pay more attention to this. Or maybe they will simply pile up the bodies, issue voter ID cards to the cadavers & go for the popular vote again in 2020.

If it's California...f*ck it.

Desperate?  Cries of "It's Trump's fault!" and "Racist!" not working?  Have you tried the "Climate Change!" scary scream?

Interesting that when it comes to things the government actually should be spending money on, you know, public infrastructure, they are penny pinchers.  But they can always find an endless supply of DebtBux to throw at their favorite social engineering schemes.

Truth be told they probably declined to invest in the maintenance of this dam because they wanted to let it fail and not replace it.  Other dams all over the western US are being dismantled on purpose.

That may be the case.   Funny how this dislike the most "green" (hydroelectric) power source as well.    Probably the only green source that actually makes a decent amount of power unlike solar or wind.

Dams are pretty basic and fundamental to human society.

I missed the book, but I am so stealing that quote.
