More than 150 University of Chicago professors and lecturers are protesting a “socially regressive” plan to build an “Obama Center” next to the school’s campus.

So, the shrine to an empty suit...is too empty?

Nationally known figures often are not that popular where they live or are from.  Kinda like an immune response or inflammatory response to a splinter. Local people often hear things about the figure that are not reported nationally.

I don't think Obama is that popular in Chicago. I am sure they voted for him but he never did anything for the people there.

Some changes to the design.  The tall part gets taller (bigger middle finger to the community).   The parking garage gets moved.   Still in the da*n park where it doesn't belong.

http://chicago.cbslocal.com/2018/01/10/obama-center-designs-revised/

On the subject of is he popular in Chicago.   Well,  in the way politicians are popular.  Meaning not much.  Yeah, there are those die hards that think he does no wrong.   But for the most part,  I think most people have Obama fatigue,  and wish he would just go away.

I think its more telling that Barry decided to stay on in DC.   Probably thinks he has outgrown Chicago.  I doubt he will ever live in Chicago full time again.    If he were older I would imagine he would be off to Hawaii to his new mansion that he has supposed bought.    But since he is younger,  he will continue trying to be president of something......

On the subject of the profs at Uof C.  It may just be simple nimbyism.   I think they don't like the idea of it being in the park since its in their neighborhood and they lose that park (it will undoubtable be ringed by security, it isn't going to be a open park).   The whole location I know is unpopular,  but if you speak out about that,  you will get labeled a racist (even though most black people would rather it not be in the park either).

So they go after the parking garage (which if the obama place doesn't have,  they will never get many people to come), since cars are unpopular now with that crowd (well your car,  not theirs).   People forget,  once the newness of the place wears off,  these places often struggle to keep attendance up.   They never get close to the numbers they talk about.   And don't forget,  this park is not in a bad neighborhood at all.  If Barry wants to "help" poor people all he has to do is move that thing one mile south.  Lots of vacant lots for his monument to himself.

If Barry could learn (good luck with that),  he would look at what happened with George Lucas,  who wanted to build his museum in a Chicago park too.    As you know,  it ain't being built in Chicago,  Lucas went back to LA with his tail between his legs.    I am guessing if Barry doesn't get his park location,  it isn't go to be in Chicago at all.

I think the location is in a pretty crappy neighborhood, although things can change quickly from block to block.

http://www.chicagotribune.com/news/local/breaking/ct-south-shore-profile-met-20170428-story.html
Quote
"If a neighborhood like South Shore can't fly ... something is terribly amiss" said Beryl Satter, a history professor at Rutgers University-Newark. "It's on the lake, it has great transportation, beautiful housing stock, a long history as a middle- and upper-class neighborhood. ... It should be like Evanston."

Instead, it is foundering, making headlines for seven murders in a half-day last month.

This was a stunning development for a once-vibrant neighborhood at the southern edge of historic Jackson Park, where the Obama presidential library and museum are to be built. Like residents in Woodlawn, to the west of the park, South Shore is hoping the $500 million-plus project will spark economic growth without displacing longtime residents.

Not Reagan's Library.  From what I understand, the place is always well-attended, and events are held there -- book-signings and such.

They have them young folk go there for stuff all the time too, Young Republicans or something like that.  I donated to it in the first offering, not a Platinum VIP level or anything...Commanders Club or some such...$100 something like that, got a CVN-76 cap with scrambled eggs on it, name in some register or such.  They have stuff going on all the time, I get a mailer every so often detailing all what goes on, website probably has it too.

See Upcoming Events.

Reagan's wake there was nice, it is a beautiful location.

Reagan is a different case.   It has the aviation section (the big newish section) that could be a stand alone place on its own too.   Most presidents museum's are a one time visit with  no real reason to go again.

On the subject of Obama's.   That particular part of the park is a good neighborhood,  because its near the U of Chicago and in it's orbit (campus police, staff and students). It's the section of the park nearest the campus.   Just a couple blocks south would put it outside of it, and it may as well be on the moon away since the neighborhood goes bad fast.  Its a jarring change if you haven't been there and seen it.

It's clear Barry wants to be as near UofC as possible (the Uof C refused to offer any of it's campus land, it's got plenty land banked).   The U of C's relationship with the Obama's is a weird and tenuous one at best.  The university likes that "one of their own" finally became president (something the U of C has wanted badly since it's existed and has never had until now, they hate being second fiddle to Harvard and the like).

However, Barry was never well liked by students who got stuck with one of his classes.  Had he not been an elected politician going somewhere fast,  he would have been shown the door eventually since he was never a full professor and didn't really qualify as a full U of C person.  For the most part U of C actually is very scholarly,  something Obama isn't but wants to be seen as.  He probably would have had to settle teaching at Chicago State (a crummy community college).   I am guessing deep down,  many U of C people wish that president had been someone else.   I am guessing had it been someone else,  they proudly would host the library directly on campus  (I have seen historic maps with locations planned for such a building).

I think Barry thought he could be directly on campus too,  so the park had to do.  I am guessing 50 years down the road,  they will downplay their connection with the Obama's.

the latticework at the top of the main building is an unintelligible jumble of letters

It looks very similar to those QR codes that you can scan with your cell phone.

I have an app that does that, so I tried it. Here's what came out:

BILL CLINTON IS A RAPIST

We see that message hidden everywhere these days, always with "infowars.com" underneath.

Great humor above.

Came across a recent piece on Obama.
BTW I always found Bill Clinton extremely smart and curious.
Elizabeth Warren comes across to me as a rabid leftist but she is extremely smart and learned.
Obama never came across as curious and he only pretended to listen, as he already knew everything.

http://www.powerlineblog.com/archives/2018/01/is-obama-as-shallow-as-he-seems.php
POSTED ON JANUARY 14, 2018 BY PAUL MIRENGOFF IN BARACK OBAMA
IS OBAMA AS SHALLOW AS HE SEEMS?
Yesterday, writing about former president Obama’s hack remark to David Letterman on the absence of “a common baseline of facts” shared by Americans, I asked whether Obama really is as shallow a thinker as he appears to be. It was not a rhetorical question. To be sure, Obama has failed to display appreciable depth since he wrote his fictionalized autobiography, Dreams From My Father.

Perhaps it’s time for me to accept Rich Lowry’s assessment:

[T]he deepest truth about Obama is that there is no depth. He’s smart without being wise. He’s glib without being eloquent. He’s a celebrity without being interesting. He’s callow.

And that of Kevin Williamson:

Barack Obama doesn’t speak a foreign language or play a musical instrument, exhibits no sign that any great book has left a mark upon his mind, has never, so far as the printed word can document, uttered an original thought or put forth an interesting idea.

Thomas L. Heller
"Historian Michael Beschloss, among others, has noted that Stevenson '"could go quite happily for months or years without picking up a book.'" But Stevenson had the airs of an intellectual — the form, rather than the substance." From the article "Intellectuals" by Thomas Sowell. Nothing new when it comes to Democrats - it's why they are forever labeling Republicans as stupid. Truman might be the post WWII exception.

Liz "Woo Hoo" Warren, smart?

Sicut dolor stultus malicious!

Smart like a malicious idiot!

Let's check the Prog creds:

Harvard Law - Elitist douche, check.

Helped spawn the CFPB - Anti-Capitalist, check.

Chaired TARP oversight cabal - Anti-Capitalist and Anti-worker and Anti-bondholder, check.

Masshole - Socialist, check.

Lies about fictitious Cherokee heritage, liar and cultural appropriator, check.

Dolor sicut serpens!

Smart like a snake!

Bill Clinton, smart, interesting?

Et sollertis animi criminalibus!  He is smart, like a criminal mastermind is smart!  Wicked, corrupt and selfish to the core!

Malum animalis!  He is a pervert, likes preying on women and using his perceived position and status to pressure them, he is a bad animal!

Obama is as empty as Hillary's soul.  He is evil, malicious, vindictive, shallow, totally self-absorbed, despises what America has traditionally stood for and is the single most malignant entity ever to stain this nation!  He is pura malem, pure evil!

I don't give three sh*ts for any of them, but I would throw all three at the SCoaMF! (Maybe just two for Slick Willie and One for Fauxahontas!  Probably three for Hildabeast too!)
