Dang.  Tom Petty died of cardiac arrest.  Age 66.  Liked a lot of his songs.

Yeah, he had some interest cameos over the years too (The Postman - "You used to be famous"), and a bit young to checkout...another figure from better days past gone...

Been kinda a rough year for this, huh?

R.I.P. Tom.

I've been compared to Petty - several times. I never saw the resemblance myself but I was always flattered. I thought him an affable hippy-sort of carefree guy (again, not much comparison to my quiet and more intense demeanor).

I liked many of his songs and from time to time featured them in my bands. Free-Falling, Don't Do Me Like That, Learning to Fly, Refuge, Mary Jane (I like to do that one bluegrass-style).

Damned shame.

RIP Tom

Really loved his first (self titled) album (with 'Rockin' Around with You' & 'Breakdown' - when he had a slight punk edge to him - lost interest after that, excepting his stint with the Traveling Wilbury's.

RIP, Mr. Petty.

Distinct voice, sometimes lead singers can sound alike and throw people off as to who it is, no problem there with Tom.

End of the Line & Handle With Care are nice tunes.   ::thumbsup::

And yeah, my favorite of his is probably this -

Never been much of a fan, but I can appreciate the contribution to Rock-n-Roll history, as well as the devotion of his fans. 66 is too young. Hoping that opioids or booze weren't involved.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

He's only got 2-3 songs I enjoyed. But I agree 66 is way too young. Heck, look at Kieth Richards!

RIP, Mr. Petty.

This is the 1st Petty tune that caught my attention (1976) - - off the very first album; 'Anything that's Rock 'n' Roll'
