On Wednesday, in a move that had long been rumored by Republicans and long dreaded by Democrats, Justice Anthony Kennedy — the swing vote on the Supreme Court — announced his retirement. Kennedy’s replacement by an originalist could dramatically shift the balance of power on the court, and make Chief Justice John Roberts the new swing vote.

Democrats and members of the Left have immediately shifted into panic mode, suggesting that Kennedy’s retirement will end with the overturning of the egregious Roe v. Wade decision. That could result in pro-life legislation in a wide variety of states — assuming, of course, that Roberts does not move to protect Roe. This retirement also comes at a time when the Supreme Court has handed down a spate of close 5-4 decisions benefiting First Amendment protections, disappointing Democrats.

The war over Trump’s next nominee will be brutal; it’s been generations since an actual swing vote retired. Prepare for the worst political warfare of the last several decades.

Nominate him/her, nuclear option all before Nov or it's over. We just witnessed three 5-4 decisions.

All this crazy nonsense for the last 15+ years and its still only a 5-4 vote..............

A fight for the status quo,  provided Republicans don't get hoodwinked again.

At least Kennedy has the courtesy to retire under a Republican,  rather then die under a Democrat.

Think this fight will be nasty?  Imagine the firestorm if Ginsburg kicks the bucket before Trump leaves office.   She will not retire on her own no matter how decrepit she gets.   The sooner she goes the better it is for the country.    She was arrogant enough to think Hillary would be replacing her,  probably the only reason she didn't retire in Barry's second term.  I think she loved the idea the first woman president would have picked her replacement.   Had she known better (not her strong suit),  I bet she would be retired.   So maybe we will get lucky and Trump gets to replace her.......

We will be stuck with Sotomayor, 64 and Kagan, 58 for decades unfortunately so the best we can hope for is they write lots of losing opinions.   They have both been terrible justices,  voting wrong most of the time.    Don't see that changing either.

Breyer is 79,  so after Ginsburg goes will be the oldest liberal.    Don't see him going anywhere anytime soon.   When he does go,   that means Thomas, 70 will likely be needing to be replaced soon too.

Thankfully Alito,  68 and Gorsuch, 50 have been solid so far.

Roberts, 63 will likely get worse as time goes on.  He is likely to get even more flaky once Kennedy is gone.  Depends on what the deep state has on him and how bad he wants to keep his job.

Trump better find someone under age 55 as well as being a solid constitutionalist.   They are going to need to serve as long as possible.

He is taking into account the committee time.  I would like to think Trump can appoint
immediately, but it would be considered in "bad taste",  (what's new).  Regardless, the
Senate most likely cannot start hearings until After July 31, and with the usual August
crap, figure no hearing until September.  Then to the floor, probably not before
opening day (Oct 1, 2019).  So Fall it is.

Indeed, pray. I have been uttering many prayers of praise & thanks to the Lord, as circumstances continue to improve (despite the evil & desperate attacks from the adversary & his leftist minions). President Trump is walking through minefields & coming out unscathed.

The added bonus are the are pre Fourth-of-July fireworks & explosions going off inside the heads of the liberal horde.

Thank you, Lord!
