I remember meeting senator Fritz Hollings back in the mid 90's. I was working as a systems engineer at Microsoft and he came to Redmond on some sort of technology junket. Hollings was a democrat, but one of the last so-called conservative democrats. You may recall him from his vocal affectation where he sounded a lot like Foghorn Leghorn ("I say, I say, I said slow down there son!").
I thought it curious and amusing that ol Fritz should be making rules governing the Internet when he so plainly didn't know shyt about the Internet (or technology in general). In some cases his instincts may have been right, but he was a "shoot from the hip" type who ultimately was more fond of hearing his own voice than getting things done. His primary interest was in making deals, even if the substance was meaningless and worthless.
So who would lead the parade to round these scumbags up?
At one time I thought it would be Trey Gowdy but he turned out to be all talk and no action. Likewise Jason Chaffetz turned in some stellar performances but ultimately illustrated the old adage about "When the going gets rough..."
Right now about the only pubbie daring to open his mouth about much of anything is Jim Jordan and I see him following in Gowdy's footsteps.
Nope, this is a problem that won't be solved by men. God has forsaken us. I'm betting on Cthulhu as a game changer.
