IICR, and I probably don't, didn't Bill and Hillary discuss getting pregnant during that time, specifically to make Bill a bit more palatable and her more sympathetic?

Yes, I remember that.  I don't think anyone believed them either.

I think I read on one of these links that the Weiner was chasing after some young thing just a month, a mere month after getting hitched!

This guy must have been a valedictorian of the John Edwards School for Scoundrels!

We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.

Could it be the marriage was cover for the both of them?  Could it be that Huma's main concern is that the DA, DH was so indiscreet running around like Daffy Duck with his clock in hand instead of making time as an adult.

A defiant Rep. Anthony Weiner said today that he's not resigning.

In an exclusive interview with The Post, Weiner, 46, said the sexting scandal that has plagued him for the past week is not reason enough to give up his House seat.

"I'm not," Weiner said when asked by a Post reporter whether he planned to resign.

This statement was made today.

(switching to Yoda mode)

Resign not, he will. Kicking and screaming is how he will go, yes.

Patterico has this bit of utter creepiness with underage girls:

Quote
“I came back strong. Large. In charge. Tights and cape sh*t…” My favorite congressman<3

(My emphasis.)

Look at the quotation marks. The underage girl appears to be quoting her “favorite Congressman” Anthony Weiner. “Tights and cape sh*t” is not a phrase you would expect to hear uttered publicly by Congressman Anthony Weiner.

But it does sound like something that he might have said privately. That the underaged girl quoted.

The link for this statement — which will hopefully not need to be published — is from a Google cache that predates the scandal. The Google cache snapshot was taken May 29 . . . and as you can see from the screenshots above, the relevant parts came three days to a week earlier. Meaning that these statements appeared on May 26 and earlier — before the scandal broke on May 27. This evidence was not manufactured after the fact.

After this he adds evidence that Weiner used the "cape and tights" language with Weiss (see above post that has screenshots of their Facebook exchanges).

What will it take to sink this leaky boat?

IIRC, Part of Weiner's district is the Crown Heights.  He was elected shortly after the Crown Heights incident and he played the race card heavy during that election.  He is a reflection of his constituents,
it may be very difficult to cause his exit.

One commenter said Weiner will leave office when his district is redrawn.

I wonder if the Democrats will make it very, very difficult for him at work and if Weiner will do the George Castanza thing and move his office into a bathroom or broom closet (but otherwise refusing to leave)?

Life imitating art and all that.

No, Weiner's 9th CD is more or less racially mixed, at best, neghborhoods in parts of Brooklyn and Queens.  Definitely not run down ghetto neighborhoods like Crown Heights.

The 9th CD is a gerrymandered non-contiguous district encompassing more middle to upper middle class (or at least not lower to poor) neighborhoods which  encompasses:

Quote
In Queens, the 9th includes the neighborhoods of Maspeth, Fresh Meadows, Glendale, Howard Beach, Kew Gardens, Kew Gardens Hills, Middle Village, Forest Hills, Ozone Park, Ridgewood, Rego Park, Rockaway Beach, and Woodhaven. Its Brooklyn section includes Flatlands, Gerritsen Beach, Marine Park, Midwood, Mill Basin and Sheepshead Bay.
[Howard Beach was John Gotti's neighborhood and Mill Basin is where a lot of mob bodies are buried as its very marshy; he has offices in Rego Park and Rockaway (Queens) and Sheepshead Bay (Brooklyn), all fairly nice neighborhoods.]

From this map, you can see Weiner's district skirts Crown Heights to the east, and skips right over Canarsie and East New York.

You're correct it wasn't his district, his was adjacent but it didn't stop him from playing the race card.
The article illustrates him also looking to politics as a career not as a service and Chuck Schumer as his mentor advising him not to go to Florida where the name Weiner would be acceptable but to stay in NY.

Dirty Tricks
...
Weiner's opening came in 1991, when the City Council was radically expanded, from 35 to 51 seats. One of the new districts, the 48th, would be in Southern Brooklyn. It was a neat match for Weiner. The new seat was in the heart of Schumer's district, there was no incumbent, and the population was heavily Jewish. He jumped in the race.
...

It was at this point that Weiner's campaign decided to blanket the district with leaflets attacking his opponents. But these were no ordinary campaign attacks: They played the race card, and at a very sensitive time. They were also anonymous.

Just weeks earlier, the Crown Heights riot -- a deadly, days-long affair that brought to the surface long-standing tension between the area's black and Jewish populations -- had played out a few miles away from the 48th District. The episode had gripped all of New York and had been national news. It was just days after order had been restored that Weiner's campaign distributed its anonymous leaflets, which linked Cohen -- whose voters he was targeting in particular -- to Jesse Jackson and David Dinkins, who was then New York's mayor. It is hard to imagine two more-hated political figures in the 48th District at that moment. Jackson just a few years earlier had called New York "Hymie town," and it was an article of faith among white voters in Weiner's part of Brooklyn that Dinkins had protected the black rioters in Crown Heights -- and thus endangered the white population -- by refusing to order a harsh police crackdown. (Two years later, Dinkins would lose to Rudy Giuliani by an 80-20 percent margin in the 48th District.) The leaflets urged voters to "just say no" to the "Jackson-Dinkins agenda" that Cohen supposedly represented. At City Hall, Dinkins held up the flier and branded it "hateful."

Alec Baldwin defends his friend Weiner:

He exists under a constant pressure cooker of self-analysis and public appraisal. Like other politicians, he needs something to take the edge off. For some people, regardless of occupation, that could mean booze, drugs, gambling, food or shopping. For high functioning men like Weiner and other officials who have lived through such scandals, who are constantly on the go, that leaves one tried and true source of a reliable high. The affirmation that comes when someone lets you know they want to sleep with you. Or even cyber-sleep with you.
This is sex for many people now. No time for Mateus and cheap spaghetti. No time for slowly moving toward one another with a combination of hope and caution, lust and integrity. One can push a button and get something beyond porn.

From The Politico:

Quote
Weiner has also complained to friends that he wasn’t sure how he would make a living if he were to leave Congress and its $174,000 annual salary. “He’s worried about money and how to pay his bills,” said a Democratic insider. “He’s very concerned about that.”

Coincidentally, this is the number one reason cited by career criminals as to why they cannot go legit. It's all they've ever known and they just can't conceive of having to start over doing work that "ordinary people" do.

Even if Weiner were to leave his seat he almost certainly would somehow manage to find something to do connected to the government. But lobbying would probably be out since he has almost no friends at all in congress (he didn't have any before the scandal hit and damn sure doesn't now). I also don't see him going to work for a media outlet because although they have no problem with liars in their midst they do seem to shy away from admitted and proven serial liars. So maybe he can get a civil service job of some kind perhaps working for the USPS or FEMA.

Reminds me of the very end of This Is Spinal Tap where the band members are asked what they think they could do if they weren't rock musicians (occurs at the 4:05 minute mark of this clip):

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.
