Somebody tech-savvy will have to explain this to me

So...a government can exploit some sort of restrictor-plate in computer modems that companies agreed to put in...

...and now people thought they could change it...but it looks like they can't...

https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/t5/Home-Broadband/How-to-change-DNS-from-Smart-Modem/td-p/781838

Do I have that right?  And do we here in the states have the same BS going on?

Should be obvious...anything with "Smart" in it means "stupid" as it is anti-liberty and freedom!   ::outrage::

So,

1)  A lot of modems and routers have freeware firmware you can load that gets around this bullsit
2)  The only thing your DSL or Cable modem really does is convert data to be pushed over data channel
3)  DNS is a fancy way of saying 411 . The modem says I only looking the DEX white pages for a number, and the white pages can't contain the number of "known criminals"
4) Any wireless router or device connected to your modem can be told to look at the "Grey-pages" containing everyone's number-even "criminals" and "Thought Criminals"
5) In order to really ban anything they would have to block access to the "grey pages" -only there isn't a single repository for that- and servers share information- they have an index of who to ask for a 408 number vs a 212 number. And they ask on your behalf...
6) if they block access to the ALL of the grey-poaes servers,  you can still get access by setting up a VPN and or proxy ( like I did on that google server)  and it acts like your buddy in a free country who asks for the grey-server information and proxies it to you.
7) Going to block every proxy out there as well? There are  email severs where a Chinese resident can literally request a web page emails back to them...

The internet is just not so easily controlled.  It can keep escalating.. but what if I start embedding "wrong think" encoded in a porn video stream - just flip 1-2 bits per frame. To the NSA you are some harmless porn junkie.  Or have parts of the message in different pictures on a facebook feed.. and so on.. and everything just needs an app ( like TOR)  that pulls that information from the various sources and makes it accessible for the noob.

Really you can't shut down communication on the internet without shutting down the internet. The exisitence of the internet is in fact the best proof avialable that there is no all powerful  Illuminati group in charge. If there were, they would never have allowed the internet to come into existence.

Excellent write up.  I, personally have a "smart router".  I choose not to use the DNS supplied by my ISP.  Cloudflare is FAST!

Imagine that - a piece of technical equipment that doesn't allow you to adjust basic fundamental settings.  that's like buying a radio that won't let you pick the station.

I'd stuff it in the box and send it back for a refund...

Which piece of Technical Equipment are you referring to?

The 2nd of Libertas's links was referring to a modem.

Yes!  in Australia, appears to be an Australian ISP, and Cell phone company.
