Ginger Baker, 80
« on: October 06, 2019, 07:56:49 AM »
Liked him in Cream as well as on several, more recent jazz albums (playing with, among others, guitarist Bill Frisell).

RIP, Ginger.

Peter Edward "Ginger" Baker, one of the most innovative and influential drummers in rock music, has died at the age of 80. A co-founder of Cream, he also played with Blind Faith, Hawkwind and Fela Kuti in a long and varied career. His style combined the lyricism of jazz with the crude power of rock. One critic said watching him was like witnessing "a human combine harvester".

A ginger with a ginger temper and a natural on banging drums because I think he is the first of his clan to stand upright...it's like they put a caveman in a band and as long as he could swing sticks and strike skins, well, all is well.  That "human combine harvester" description should be included on his gravestone.

I'd say after what he put himself through 80 is a heck of a run!
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
