The fact that he is unable to recognize pure evil and is loath to engage it in a manner which seeks to eliminate it illustrates how woefully inadequate he is to the times and more distressingly to the cause of supporting Liberty!
Because he's a Civic Nationalist at a time when the nation is no more and the Constitution is all but a dead-letter. He's a relic of the past when our institutions worked -- when they worked -- and he hasn't woken to the fact that all has been corrupted ......... and he helped that to happen.
He's still operating on the notion that America is a 'proposition nation', an 'ideal', when that was never true and never would be true; true nations are blood, culture, soil and language. All that remains of America is soil -- "magic dirt" if you will, and the fantasy that any who come here to our "magic dirt" magically become Americans. They don't.
We were a Christian nation. At some point, "Judeo" was falsely inserted into our ethos, further corrupting what the nation was and what the Founders intended it to be.
McConnell knows none of this and would vehemently deny it if confronted with it, which he would be if he ever really got out of the bubble in which all of DC lives. What has been done to this country and its people is evil and he can't and won't see or hear it because he helped create it.
