Maybe there is a distinction between English Anglican and American Episcopalian's...since my mother was Methodist/Presbyterian raised and my father Catholic they raised us Episcopal, we always addressed the head guy as Reverend or Father...there was an Assistant Reverend as a #2 and there were a couple Deacons...and led by an Archbishop...and only the Reverend's did Communion and only the head guy did Confirmations.

By the 80's it got ridiculously liberal and we gassed them in favor of an ARC Lutheran church.
