...economics, yeah...that's pretty superficial...what kind of trade can occur with a combination of the United States, Pakistan, Uzbekistan and Afghanistan that isn't already occurring now, or can only occur as a group?
Looks like an attempt to check the Chi-Com "belt and road"/"string of pearls" but the Commies have been at it longer and are succeeding on land and at sea with no real pushback...
It is symptomatic of on overstretched empire bleeding wealth and squandering what resources it has left to "appear" to be globally omnipotent.
The only ones interested in salvaging anything in Afghanistan is the spooks at Langley...they probably want to renewed agreement with the Taliban to supply the opium they desire to fund off-book activities in return for keeping other elements of the DeepState in check with respect to their control of the country...just like the good old days under Bush Sr and Slick Willie...
Why anybody trusts the US when led by puppets is a mystery...or maybe not, maybe other leaders are truly imbeciles as well?

...and the truly pathetic part is not cutting and running...that was pre-ordained once the decision was made to abandon equipment while pulling out in force so as to accelerate the Taliban resurgence...no, the pathetic part is the continued lying about what has happened and what is happening and what will happen...
At least in the last days of Rome the truly incompetent, insane and dangerous were snuffed out...in the last days of America they get promoted...
