Mount Spurr in Alaska feeling frisky?
« on: February 13, 2025, 01:13:37 PM »
Mount Spurr, located approximately 75 miles west of Anchorage, Alaska, is exhibiting signs that may indicate an upcoming eruption, according to officials from the Alaska Volcano Observatory.

For the past 10 months, the region has experienced what is described as “volcanic unrest,” characterized by an increase in seismic activity.

As of February 6, the observatory reported a rise in the average number of weekly earthquakes beneath the volcano from 30 to 125 since April.

If it does blow, prevailing winds will determine any impact on surrounding cities and towns...at the least it could create diverts for many US/Canada flights to Asia...

I used to watch them. Scary. I recall some tiny feisty woman. Fearless. The tire chains weighed more than she did.

I enjoyed something more rustic years ago...

The story of Dick Proenneke told through his own words on film of his wilderness life at Twin Lakes, Alaska...

Not sure if the full films he made are even around anymore...saw the originals on PBS I think years ago...just snippets I see online now...not sure if the DVD's on the first link are full or not...  Interesting as heck to watch though, one of those things you watch you never forget about...
