Rock Stars: Then and Now
« on: June 16, 2011, 10:09:47 PM »
I found this slideshow at Instapundit.  It moves pretty fast so you might want to hit the pause button to read the captions.

Most of the photos show the ravages of time.  Don't laugh, because you probably look the same in "then and now" photos.

A small handful look exactly the same.  And a couple of them actually look better now.  I'm thinking Joan Jett.

We are so far past and beyond the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that the Colonists and Founders experienced and which necessitated the Revolutionary War that they aren’t even visible in the rear-view mirror.

Although I'm not a big Stones fan, this song naturally popped into my head while I was looking at that.

Jeepers.

Ya notice how in a really high percentage of these photos, the person's nose becomes bulbous or elongated at the tip, and more downturned at the end?

The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Wish some would grow in my knees then.

Funny. I never learned to play a guitar and was never in a band, but I still look like death warmed over. ::thinking::

Good show! There were a few I hadn't heard of. Some look really good, some look awful.

Kim Carnes - Bette Davis Eyes
We always mocked that song as "She's got . . .  Sammy Davis Eye."

Something a little long in the tooth (1972), but still quite enjoyable and holds up well.  An underrated band.

poco-good feelin to know

Another favorite of mine of Poco's, from 1973.

Crazy Eyes - Poco

Another underrated singer/songwriter, Dave Mason, from 1973.

misty morning stranger.wmv

And probably my all-time favorite Dave Mason song, Show Me Some Affection, from 1976.

DAVE MASON - SHOW ME SOME AFFECTION

Oh, and to add a Dave Mason version of a Bob Dylan original.  Dave played accoustic guitar on Jimi's version in 1968 (he was a friend of Jimi's); this is Dave's 1974 version.  But this is great in its own right.  Dave makes it his own, which is the sign of a good musician.
