“It upset me,” Debbie Gentile-Abbood said of her reaction to the movie star’s announcement that she underwent a preventative double mastectomy.

I see "it's not fair" from a somewhat different perspective.

It's not fair, true enough. But that's life. Embedded in the basic truth of this particular unfairness is yet another sham of the professional Left.

The Leftist media would have the public unquestioningly accept that Jolie is a "hero" because she had elective surgery to have her breasts removed, and apparently is doing or has done the same thing with her uterus or ovaries or some such womanly parts. She's assumed to be above reproach because she's "brave".

But Jolie is being lauded as a hero for doing something that the average person cannot: elective preventative surgery. They willingly overlook this basic unfairness in order to erect yet another false Leftist narrative. Other women not in her financial position would have to wait to get cancer before undergoing the same surgery.

The media wants a wimmin to be a hero for choosing to rid herself of potentially troublesome female parts, but she can only do it because she has the money. They erect a hero narrative, without acknowledging that the heroism is wholly purchased, and has very little to do with bravery, overcoming adversity, or anything true grit is made of. Her counterpart's story of heroism will be battling cancer. What is her "heroism" in the face of that? Nothingburger.

More power to Jolie for bringing her wealth to the marketplace and purchasing a service she deems necessary for her health. But let's not pretend she's a hero. She's merely a woman with options unavailable to others because of her wealth. That's not heroism, and the narrative is a joke.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

You're right about the falsity of the "hero" narrative, so I agree with you there, however, from my point of view as a woman, it takes a certain amount of guts to have a right-now perfectly fine, very visible and womanly body part removed even if that lowers one's future risk, money notwithstanding.

It's not Jolie's fault she has the money to deal with it.

The woman whinging about it has the same risky gene, so maybe she is coming from the "this doesn't make Jolie a hero" or maybe she's just as I said.

Jersey girl is a proglodyte, she just wants the government paying for hers (and whatever else she desires), but not preemptively, she'll of course demand it when its obvious.

Good luck with that!

Now there are stories of men having healthy prostates removed because they have this gene. You know it's inevitable that in 10 or 20 years the "consensus" will once again do a 180 and they'll say that gene actually has nothing to do with cancer.

Yes, when another organ dies they'll wonder wtf and probably sue the doc for "missing something"...it would be consistent with their entitlement mindset...

Tell her not to worry...Give obamacare a few years and there won't be enough good physicans to do those elective surgeries. She'll just die like everyone else.

Set her up an appointment to see Dr. Gosnell I'm certain he'll do it just for the practice and the prison clinic will be cleaner than his old house of horrors was in Phili.

The problems we face today are there because the people who work for a living
are outnumbered by those who vote for a living.

Something else that bothers me about this is how the Hippocratic Oath is again being relegated to the status of quaint anachronism. In cases like this we are seeing doctors remove healthy, viable tissues because they believe they might become diseased. I know most people would probably think it's reasonable, but I am leery of letting that mindset overrule Hippocratic ethics. Modern tyrannies have been all too happy to use medical science as a tool of their ideologies.

The abortion and euthanisia industry have done a lot to help advance Hippocratic ethics...oh, wait...I meant NOT!
