Should we pin this site so it stays here? There is a lot of info to go through. ::thinking::

It is a lot of info.  I've had it bookmarked for a while, but then I forget to go back to it.  I like these reminders!   ;)

Good stuff.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Excellent stuff. Great find Pan.
Just read it thoroughly and baking soda, vinegar, and dry bleach are things that are now on my list.
One thing that I thought was missing was spare firearms parts. I have firing pins, springs, extractors, anything that, if lost or broken, would result in turning your firearm into a club.

Spare parts for your firearms is wise but if you have multiple kinds, shotguns, rifles, pistols, revolvers then stock piling, inventory, storage can be a pain.  I would suggest adding to your knowledge is how to make these parts.  Easier than you think and MOST can be made with hand tools and raw stock.
Here's some info:

4140 steel can be used to make firing pins, hammers, sears, triggers, etc..

Some info on heat treating parts.

Great stuff. The bitch of it is that my SIL and his dad work for a company in Connecticut that make parts for the gun industry all over the country and some international companies but they have no idea what part is for what gun because they don't have the factory part numbers to match them up to. If I want a spring I have to send them the old one so they can match it up which can be a pain to start with.

Coffee:
Packet (1) - Tasters Choice freeze dried coffee,  purchased 1992, opened packet and poured 1 cu boiling water.
A few of the flakes required stirring to dissolve.  Tastes pretty good.

Note of Warning:  Dry Bleach or Calcium Hypochorlite....

You want to keep it way way way ... away from any petroleum products.

Under adult supervision only:  Put about 1/2 cup in a plastic cup and put it in the middle of your driveway (far away from the house).

Get about 1/4 cup of brake fluid in another cup.

At night... take that break fluid and quickly dump it into the cup with the powdered calcium hypocholrite (make sure it doesn't spill over in your haste to run away).

Run away.

It will start to smolder.. and then turn a bright orange.. and then you'll get 6 foot high flames that burn like magnesium.  It'll roar and pop from the chemical reaction.

Hmm...

Sounds like a nice recipe for a homemade stun grenade!

 ;D

As far as gun parts, I've gotten some stuff from here, the last being some clips for our really old Winchester .22.

When I was a kid (14) someone taught us too use a gallon jug with a little/a lot of break fluid and a paper towel tuck the towel in the top two scoops of powder chlorine and cap.
When ready shake and run. ::overkill::

Were I putting together a 'forever prep', one small thing I can think to add is peppercorns.  They are lightweight, easily stored and, in a SHingTF situation, people will still want their food seasoned.  Peppercorns used to be valuable as monetary barter exchange for a reason, and there's nothing to indicate that our desire for pepper has lessened.  But make sure it's the peppercorns, not preground pepper as that will go stale very quickly.  One can also add other cooking 'seeds' as, again, they are light in weight and easily stored.  Things like carraway seeds, mustard seeds, coriander seeds, cumin seeds, cinnamon sticks, bay leaves, in fact, just about any spice in a dried whole, not ground, form.  Of course, if one is storing such things, you'll need som way to grind it up.  Mortar and pestle is the obvious choice, but a hand grinder, preferably made of wood or metal (I have a plastic one and do not think it would survive SHingTF use for very long without breaking) would be good.  Just my pennies thrown into the pot.

I think peppercorns and spices in general is a great idea. They were highly valued and sought-after commodities in pre-industrial societies -  East, West, and everywhere in between. No reason to think the same wouldn't apply to a post-industrial society.

I'm marking time until after the election, if it doesn't go right
I'm going through these sections and then hitting stores and
buying like it's the end of the world.

So will everybody else. My concern is that by that time, the dollar will have no value and the store shelves will be wiped clean.

Probably won't be accepting credit cards either, for what may be left.

Charles, please do what you can now in terms of food.  Really.  It's not like what you buy won't ever get used.

Yeap, glad rickz mentioned it.

Well, I live in area where I'm pretty confident that most people aren't that self-aware. Nonetheless, I will spend time over this Christmas holiday refining my list.  It's pretty hit and miss right now and I need to redo it in to a master. I have some stuff but I know it's not enough. With my new list I can work through January on it.

Another thought...

I've stocked pile some cocoa powder.  I'm hoping if it stays sealed it will be ok for awhile.  But perhaps I should get the beans...does that seem odd?  I just think there are plenty of people who like their chocolate...and would be willing to trade for it?
