Our civilization is a victim of its own success. We have been so successful at eliminating struggle -- and I mean real struggle, like the struggle to put food in your gut -- that flowery, inane, feelgoodisms have taken root and spread across the populace like kudzu. These are the sort of mental indulgences that can only come about as a byproduct of sloth and lack of material want, and the fact that they substitute for the pursuit of fundamentals is a large part of why we're in this mess as a civilization. Just relish this thought: these glittering jewels of ignorance, as Rush calls them, blithely cancel out our serious and earnest efforts.
It's self-correcting, though. "Struggle" will return, and with a vengeance.
