Forget about the Segway. You want one of these.

Improve the battery life, increase the speed, harden it to defeat gunfire and it's the pretty darn close to what Robert Heinlen described in his book, Starship Troopers. (The mobile infantry featured in the movie would have been much more badass if they had been equipped with the armored super suits described in the book.)

Found at AoS, the link points to this article at The Blaze.

Ten or twenty years from now a few dozen soldiers equipped with this stuff will be able to wreak the kind of destruction that can now only be delivered by tanks.

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

Will they offer a civilian version? You know, for parity? If this bunch of thugs get their hands on these we'd be well and truly screwed.

Or if it's only available to the police.
We are so far past and beyond the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that the Colonists and Founders experienced and which necessitated the Revolutionary War that they aren’t even visible in the rear-view mirror.

I am guessing technology this sensitive will be restricted to military use for fear of it finding its way to enemies and potential enemies.

As it develops older models may find their way eventually into LEO outfits and later civilian markets, much like night vision gear and such.
We are now where The Founders were when they faced despotism.
