TNT To Revive "Dallas" Series
« on: July 09, 2011, 09:22:30 AM »
I have to wonder if this idea was polled or put before a focus group because it sure seems like a yawner to me.

Here is a link to an article (with cast picture) about it.

And, yeah, Larry Hagman, Patrick Duffy and Linda Gray are in it. Not that it will matter all that much since undoubtedly most of the scenes will necessarily revolve around the new and younger cast members. Viagra or not, it's pretty difficult to get any excitement built up around the 79 year old Hagman or the 69 year old Duffy let alone 78 year old Linda Gray. It appears that Victoria Principal has had the good taste to stay away from this likely train wreck.

Who knows, though? Maybe there is a demand for hot septuagenarian and/or octogenarian sex drama.

Still, some things are better left to reruns and memories and this sure sounds like it should have remained in that category rather than resurrected from the dead. Just because you can do something doesn't mean you should do something.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

I guess since I missed the first one (by choice), I'll miss this one, too.

The first one (the early seasons anyway) was campy and fun.

One of my favorite scenes was the family sitting around the swimming pool, Miss Ellie doing a crossword puzzle asks out loud, "Eight letter word for buoys" and without missing a beat, J.R. while looking at Pam doing the backstroke in the pool, says, "Pontoons."

Hilarious.

It was pretty much all downhill after the "Who shot J.R.?" season. Writing went down the drain.

I can't imagine how any interest in a new version can be drummed up, though.

The only thing I know about Dallas is the summer that radio was blasting "who shot JR?" commercials.  It was hot as hell and the wife and I threw some coolers and stuff into the pickup bed and spent the rest of the month in Colorado rocky mountain high.  About 40 at night and 80 for about thirty minutes in the afternoon. Beautiful.

I don't think I ever watched a single episode of the original series.  Since I watch even less TV now than I did back then, I'll probably pass on this one too.

Hollywood seems to have run out of ideas.  They keep on making inferior remakes of old movies and TV shows.

I'm still waiting for the inevitable remake of Casablanca, starring Johnny Depp and Jennifer Aniston.  Or whoever.  Maybe it'll have lots of explosions.

And don't forget comic book characters. The only comic book I used to read was Mad Magazine. Haven't read one of those in over 30 yrs.
