I like the avatar. I believe it is the literal truth, too. I often find myself wondering in amazement at the fact that our colonial ancestors were, in so many ways, less harassed by the British Crown than we are today by the government instituted to replace it.
Yeah. Remember teh row it caused when I first put it up?
I tell ya', I'm only keeping one eye on things and having a fantastic summer. I know what needs doin', but I'm not gonna' let my time get commandeered by these scumbags. I'll get the rage going again when the timing is right.
I don't blame you for indulging in diversions. I've sort of crossed a line where the only satisfaction I have left is pure unbridled schadenfreude when the enablers and useful idiots chafe at the impositions of their own creation. The whole debt ceiling debacle (remember when the continuing resolution debate was brushed aside, so that we could "focus on the real fight ahead", i.e.
this?) has provided ample and conclusive evidence that there is no hope whatsoever of achieving a political solution to this country's grave peril. The Republican party has made, as its semi-official policy, the idea that they do not have to be good or worthy, they simply have to be not quite as sh*tty as the Democrats and they'll always have our votes. "What are they gonna do, vote for the Democrats? Ha!" -- that's the GOP platform.
And, no, I know that a third-party challenge is hopeless. Weisshaupt mentioned in another thread that he thinks some people find his assessments too pessimistic, but I don't think that's the case at all. He is exactly right in the things he says.
Seriously -- at this stage in the decline of the republic the intellectual and emotional energy spent on politics would be better vested in other pursuits, namely those things that are likely to prove useful in the dark times ahead.
