Shut down the Internet? go ahead and try
« on: August 23, 2011, 10:54:10 AM »

At least in metro areas it will be damn near impossible to shut down internet traffic.  The myriad of wireless routers and other devices running software like this make it near impossible to cut off communication, though it might be a lot slower.  Then it only takes a few people with the know how to establish links to other locations.. like dialup services in France. And with the right stuff, this sort of  communication is virtually untraceable.

IP networks were designed to be fault tolerant in the event of a nuclear attack. I still laugh when morons in the government think this is still something that can be controlled in any meaningful sense.  I suppose they could jam the spectrum used by most routers/laptops, but even then I would suspect they can't do it for an entire city, and the signal will just route the long way around.

You can't stop the signal Mal.

Astonishingly (to me), no.

I'm trying in vain to remember a description of the internet that I read not that long ago; something about, I think, the internet is itself a giant work-around, intrinsically so.
