But seriously, how do you deal with the trauma that this kind of thing inflicts on your children?

I was actually thinking of the spectator's children since this took place at an air show.

Ya have to turn it into an opportunity to impress upon them the importance of safety and decision making and risk.

How you do that, I dunno.  I suspect it is easier with older children as they should have more cognitive development to work with.

The young ones...I dunno.  Hug them and tell them it was all just a really bad mistake and get their minds off of it somehow?
