Newt Gingrich To Announce Presidential Exploratory Committee Decision This Week

A spokesman for Newt Gingrich tells ABC News that the former Speaker of the House will announce this week whether he intends to form a presidential exploratory committee.

Assuming he decides to go forward -- and sources close to Gingrich say he likley will -- he will become the first major Republican figure to jump into the 2012 Presidential race.

Gingrich said he would make an announcement before the end of February or in early March, but his spokesman’s comments to ABC News provide the clearest timeline yet of his presidential decision-making process.

Those comments come on the same day that Gingrich announced he would travel to Iowa next week to participate in a presidential candidate forum organized by the Iowa Faith and Freedom Coalition.

The March 7 event outside Des Moines will feature Gingrich as well as potential rivals former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty, former Pennsylvania Sen. Rick Santorum, and Georgia businessman Herman Cain....

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

If he's not announcing his intention to enter into self-imposed permanent political exile, I don't want to hear it!

We've known he's going to run for months now, despite the little patty-cake game he plays with Hannity whenever he's on that show. I stand by my assertion that no pre-2008 figure has what it takes, and certainly has no chance of actually winning.

The Butthead meets The Mouth...a marriage made in hell!

Fine, getting his fanny waxed right out the gate should send the appropriate message to both idiots!

But I would rather no Butthead type be in play at all, you know the only reason one would be put into play is to elevate The Butthead by trashing any independent-minded conservative who deigns to challenge the little usurper and its charge!

I did, however, have no trouble working up my lunch.

Newt is a dinosour of old boy politics. He will fall by the wayside and very quickly.
This country needs leaders who wish to break out of the cycle these old boys and girls have bought to us.
I for one will not support a Rino.

Nope.  Plus, last week I read (forget where) that at an appearance, he kept referring to "we believe", as in, he and Mrs. Newt.  I'm done as well with co-presidencies.  For those running:  have your wife look good, and supportive, and keep quiet; we're not electing her.

Yeah, when did this whole trend of the activist First Lady start? Eleanor Roosevelt? I've had enough. I still remember Hillary going on TV to pitch HillaryCare back in 93, showing off the proposed card she would have us all carry around. And she did this with the full authority of the office to which she was elected. Oh wait.

Gingrich's presence in the race will provide some talking points moments for clarifying conservative positions. When he chooses to, he can articulate a conservative message with the best of them. But everything about him representing the GOP as the nominee is problematic. As I heard it described somewhere else, he's got one too many failed marriages. He's taken rank politically opportunistic positions (think Global Warming). He's a throwback to failed congressional leadership and failed messaging. He's an insider at a moment when the people are screaming for authenticity and outside the norm solutions.

He'll have good moments in debate. But he can't win the nomination, and he certainly can't win the presidency.

These relic- retreads revealing themselves is good.  The best case scenario is them wearing so thin with the people that few of them make it to the debate stage.

We need room on those stages for many Conservatives.
