"If taxes consumed less of America’s wealth, as some Republicans would like, it would not be possible to have a “modern industrial economy,” President Obama said during a town hall event in Mountain View, Calif. on Monday.

A member of the audience asked whether he could pay more in taxes, adding that he had been helped by federal Pell grants and infrastructure and job training programs that allowed him to be successful.

“Right now, we’ve got the lowest tax rates we’ve had since the 1950s,” Obama said during a lengthy reply.

“And some of the Republican proposals would take it back–as a percentage of GDP–back to where we were back in the 1920s,” he added. “You can’t have a modern industrial economy like that.”

Mr obama needs to clarify his thoughts of a "modern industrial economy".

I bet it is vastly different than mine.

In s**tholes like Chicago you can't have a society, above that of barbarians, with high taxes.

Must suck to be stuck between one leftist moron and the other.

Elizabeth Warren did it for him in her tirade about how much "we paid for" upon which "the factory owner" free-rides:

There is no one in this country who got rich on his own. Nobody.

You built a factory out there? Good for you. But I want to be clear: you moved your goods to market on the roads the rest of us paid for; you hired workers the rest of us paid to educate; you were, uh, safe in your factory because of police forces and fire forces that the rest of us paid for. You didn't have to worry that marauding bands would come and seize everything at your factory, and hire someone to protect against this, because of the work the rest of us did.

Now look, you built a factory and it turned into something terrific, or a great idea? God bless. Keep a big hunk of it. But part of the underlying social contract is you take a chunk of that and pay forward for the next kid who comes along.

All right there, in a nutshell.

I read crap like that and I come to the inescapable conclusion that anybody wanting to operate a business in this environment is stark raving nuts.  The only sane thing to do is to Go Galt!  Let this parasitical trash gorge itself on decaying flesh and die en masse!

It tears at you...I can attest. Here I am, itching to expand but won't. And it's aggravating. Infuriating. It is an emotional rollercoaster and first time in my adult life I feel the risk is too great, not that my business model isn't sound and successful, but the result of an outside influence. Not failure, but certainly not the success that could be achieved.

I love being in my own business.....but I feel my soul is being sucked from me. It hurts.

Every small business person I know says the same.  These are the people that comprise the backbone of American growth and prosperity and everything that can be done to punish them and prevent them from hiring and expanding is being perpetrated on them.  People in business are static, contracting or thinking of cashing out and walking away.  What this Regime and their co-conspirators are doing to this economy in general and with their regulations, taxation and fees in particular is patently Un-American in every aspect!

If the government is going to take a large chunk of the wealth you create ... what the hell's the point in trying ?

Millionaires and Billionaires be damned! The one's who will pay will be Small Business. Obama and his Liberal Socialists know this. Just like the Mom and Pop Stores, Small Business will become extinct, and replaced with Government Controlled Union Stores. Then, watch the prices go through the roof! ::outrage::
