Bombshell: DOJ Considering Elimination of ATF

"Multiple sources, including sources from ATF, DOJ  and Congressional offices have said there is a white paper circulating within the Department of Justice, outlining the essential elimination of ATF. According to sources, the paper outlines the firing of at least 450 ATF agents in an effort to conduct damage control as Operation Fast and Furious gets uglier and as election day 2012 gets closer.  ATF agents wouldn’t be reassigned to other positions, just simply let go. Current duties of ATF, including the enforcement of explosives and gun laws, would be transferred to other agencies, possibly the FBI and the DEA.  According to a congressional source, there have been rumblings about the elimination of ATF for quite sometime, but the move would require major political capital to actually happen.

“It’s a serious white paper being circulated, how far they’d get with it I don’t know,” a confidential source said.

After a town hall meeting about Operation Fast and Furious in Tucson, Ariz. on Monday, ATF Whistleblower Vince Cefalu, who has been key in exposing details about Operation Fast and Furious, confirmed the elimination of ATF has been circulating as a serious idea for sometime now and that a white paper outlining the plan does exist.

Sounds great right? Eliminating ATF? But there is more to this story. Remember, low level ATF field agents, like ATF whistleblower John Dodson, were uncomfortable conducting Operation Fast and Furious from the beginning, but were told by high level officials within ATF that if they had a problem with the operation, they could find a job elsewhere.

“Allowing loads of weapons that we knew to be destined for criminals, this was the plan. It was so mandated,” ATF Whistleblower John Dodson said in testimony on Capitol Hill on June 15, 2011.

In fact, not only were the ATF agents forced to carry out the operation, they were told to go against what they had been taught in training."

A Justice Department full of rabid leftists wants to eliminate an entire Federal agency?  Now I've heard everything.  I guess I'll wake up soon.

Oh, wonderful.  Out of the frying pan, into the fire.

We are so far past and beyond the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that the Colonists and Founders experienced and which necessitated the Revolutionary War that they aren’t even visible in the rear-view mirror.

Things must really be hot for Holder over at the ATF.

G.H.W. Bush tried to do this and the receiving agencies would have nothing of it.
Relieving us of the ATF will be one less agency and by spreading the actors throughout
the system they and their style will be diluted and eventually attritted.  A bonus thought
is that they will be uncomfortable having to operate within a disciplined and lawful environment
and leave.

Au contraire.  If they merge with the DEA then their "style" will be enhanced and augmented, and turned up to 11.

The DEA is the ATF's evil twin.  Don't forget, it was the War on Drugs that started the whole trend towards no-knock raids, property forfeiture, and the paramilitarization of the police.

Misread it. G.H.W. wanted them spread throughout all of the law enforcement agencies, which would have thinned them out.  Folding them into the DEA is smoke and mirrors.  Of course it will help with the politics of Holder and this rogue agency.

What next, will Holder turn in his Mother? Hope this continues a while. Love, hating Eric Holder, hope he is truly feeling the screws, no one deserves it more. Now, will he turn in Obama to save his ass from Prison? Tune in! ::popcorn::

Yes, it is applying a big broom to bury all the dirt and then it will be BAU for Holder & Co!

Screw that noise!  I'm all for wiping out ATF, but only if other alphabet agencies get the boot and Holder is brought up on charges!

I look for them to just form another agency down the road to replace the ATF. The Federal motto: Can't have too many Bureaucracies!

All we need is the FBI and the CIA. One Foreign one Domestic. Now here is where it becomes tricky so pay attention DC. Agencies within the Big Brother. The FBI could have a branch of DEA, ATF, and HLS. The CIA could have all the abbreviations they want but, here's the kicker, controlled by one branch under the auspices of the Attorney General. Oh! One more thing, not this Attorney General, the next Attorney General! ::pimp::
