The importance of capitalization
« on: October 02, 2011, 07:59:31 PM »
In the world of hi-tech gadgetry, I've noticed that more and more people who send text messages and emails have long forgotten the "art" of capitalization.

Those of you who fall into this world, please take note of the statement below. I cannot stress enough how grammar is very
important to it.

Capitalization is the difference between helping your Uncle Jack off a horse, and helping your uncle jack off a horse.

Is everybody clear on that?
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Singing to the choir here, fella.  I remarked just the other day on an MSNBC transcripter violating this rule.

On the other hand, what the hell difference does the tossing of just another insignificant rule in today's world make, right?

I saw your comment and I was gonna post a similar experience and had no time. Just that same day, I posted a link to an embedded video. At the link, whoever posted the video transcribed the content. I was going to repost the transcription, but it was so filled with typos, dropped words, punctuation errors, and capitalization errors, it made more sense to just suggest people watch the video.

I mean, people are going to mistype things sometimes. But at least try, for Pete's sake.

It matters. Don't ever let them convince you it doesn't. It just feels that way some days.

ETA: BTW, this was just an email joke my dad sent me.

Well, yes, you're correct.  Rhetorical, in the main; ironical in the rest.

 ::hysterical::
We are so far past and beyond the “long train of abuses and usurpations” that the Colonists and Founders experienced and which necessitated the Revolutionary War that they aren’t even visible in the rear-view mirror.

You've probably seen this one, but I hadn't until a Facebook friend put it up the other day.
