Good, we should be confronting these bastards, Ukraine/Russia is fracking Euro-problem/distraction...it's these Chi-Com bastards we have to engage.

If they start peeling away Brazilian goods, somebody else will have to get less...whoever they are sell to them...

We need to start pivoting away from them and get more self-reliant and not so tied down to a bad actor.

Follow the money. China does lots of trade. I wonder if that means military alliance. I bet even Vietnam does lots of trade with China.

Here is a useful site to follow the money.
Chinese used to be called the Jews of the east. They are laughing all the way to the bank while the US builds bases all over and pisses away money.  I read that in the past years US spent 300B on Ukraine. No return on that investment.  Romans used to get a return on their military. Gold. Wheat. Slaves.  I am not saying US govt is evil but stupid.

In some of these places China is building infrastructure as an investment with a return. US backs insurgents to disrupt this in some places. No return on that investment.

Bring it up.
hit explore at top right
select location in the drop down for region or further by country at the right
select exports or imports
select by partner I listed the biggest partner.
South American exports 27 pct China imports 24 pct China. [BTW US used to be the biggest partner in our back yard]

Asia>SE Asia Exports 18 pct China imports 27 pct China
Asia>SE Asia>Thailand Exports 16 pct China US 15 pct imports 26 pct China
Asia>SE Asia>Myamar Exports 37 pct China imports 42 pct China [US supports insurgents maybe?]

Asia>Southern Asia>Pakistan Exports 19 pct US 11 pct China, Imports 31 pct China. [US supports insurgents to kill Chinese engineers no return]

Trump launched 80+ cruise missiles into a mostly empty Syrian air base in response to a Syrian gas attack that never happened. US gets zero in return.

Well, China has more than 4 times our population so, a lot more people to try to keep fed and happy enough not to riot...and interventionitis aside...bombing Syria is like crapping in an outhouse, really...crapping or not crapping the outhouse isn't going to like you one way or the other...

I am not buying the remote control thing for now. I cannot imagine a ship captain allowing that.

So the captain is equipped to fend off a digital era intrusion?

Such intrusion even from the HQ would not be allowed. E.g. in an oil refinery no one could change anything from outside, certainly not the plant manager.  Nothing hard wired in that way would be allowed.

Note that SCADA systems have to allow for remote access.

Well, even SCADA is networked, anything networked can be penetrated and by definition SCADA is itself a remote application...

And I would be shocked if the communication medium wasn't satellite...and since the digital age there are web connections pulling the data...

These systems are vulnerable to cyber attacks, they've already happened.

Yeah, well...not going to be able to deal with the Quisling scum here collaborating with the bloody Chi-Com's until we make it really difficult for them to do so...

So, yeah...we need someone to poke the Chi-Com's in the eye hard enough to spark a shooting war...then maybe both enemies can be engaged...

Until then, the sappers will continue to sell us all out...

I keep telling people the Chi-Com's see only one way out of their economic woes and it is war...

Now, INDOPACOM commander Admiral John Aquilino is sounding the alarm -

"We all need to understand that it's moving very fast," Aquilino said, as quoted by Bloomberg.

He said, "The buildup of military power despite a bad economy, the increased narrative of all things inside the 10-dash line are Chinese sovereign territory, then the actions that are going toward enforcement."

After serving three years as the head of INDOPACOM, Aquilino will step down. He oversees 380,000 soldiers, sailors, Marines, airmen, guardians, Coast Guardsmen, and Department of Defense civilians.

He warned about rising tensions near the Second Thomas Shoal, where the Philippines has held the line since World War II. A recent incident of Chinese vessels using water cannons to block Philippine military vessels has been an ominous sign for some military observers.

Aquilino also spoke about China's economy, indicating the world's second-largest economy "has drastically been reduced" because of a "real-estate market crash."

"You go ask any economist if the Chinese are going to deliver 5.3% growth, and they will tell you, 'No way,'" Aquilino said.

Aquilino also called North Korean leader Kim Jong Un's regime "disgusting" for spending large sums of money on the military while a food shortage ripples through the country.
.
.
.
David Asher, a senior fellow at the Hudson Institute, commented on Aquilino's remarks by stating:

"Admiral Aquilino has been a forward-thinking, leaning, and acting US Combatant Commander in the Indo-Pacific. But the facts on the ground and sea have been allowed to strategically favor Communist China which has fortified coral reefs and atolls across the South China Sea and fan its naval forces across the region from the seas surrounding Japan to Taiwan to the Philippines and Vietnam.

"China's relentless expansionism has been largely unopposed. Beijing cannot be allowed to continue its expansionist wave. It's time for the US, Japan, and Australia to link up and provide active protection to the Philippines and start to begin freedom of navigation missions to Taiwan. Incoming Commander Admiral Sam Paparo will have a lot on his plate."

It is not unusual, though more usual in the past than now...for outgoing commanders to issue one last warning as they leave a posting.  It confirms my own concerns in the region.  I am unmoved IMO that the wrong engagement in Europe is an unnecessary and dangerously distracting and wasteful use of time and resources when the far larger threat in the Pacific remains negligently under-addressed.  America's enemies in order of magnitude are: Communist China, Iran & North Korea in that order...all others can wait or are not an immediate problem.  We neglect the Pacific and it will be our undoing unless stupidity in Europe renders the world inhospitable first.
