Speaking of "Too many laws on the books":

Quote
Vet Forbidden From Building Tree House for His Kids

At what point is Big Government too big to tolerate? That’s a matter for discussion, but hopefully we can all agree we’ve passed it when we are not allowed to build tree houses for our kids in our own backyards:

Quote
A zoning board in Fairfax County, Va., is standing firm in its decision to order a war veteran to destroy a tree house he built for his two young sons.

County officials determined Mark Grapin, an Army aviation specialist, violated zoning regulations when he built a tree house in his backyard.

“The boys wanted a tree house,” Grapin told Fox News Radio, explaining it was a promise he made to his 8-year-old and 10-year-old sons before he left for Iraq. “It was a commitment I made to the boys and, frankly, we should do our best to keep our commitments to our children.”

The most important commitment we have to our children is to pass down to them at least as much liberty as was passed down to us. To put it mildly, our generation is falling short in this regard.

Grapin contacted Fairfax County and was told he didn’t need any special permits to build the tree house. But what he did need, as he found out the hard way after he started building it, was a zoning variance.

So far he has spent nearly $1,800 on permits and fees as he runs the bureaucratic rat maze, trying to get permission from officious petty tyrants to build a damn tree house.

Quote
At his final opportunity to plead his case, Grapin will have to satisfy nine requirements to save his sons’ tree house. He must prove that the tree house “will be in harmony with the intended spirit and purposes of this Ordinance and will not be contrary to the public interest.”

If he fails in the eyes of his local overlords, he will have fought for his country without even getting the right to use his own backyard as he sees fit in return.

Nanny State Runs Amok in Delaware as Govt Arbitrarily Tears Down 60-Year-Old Basketball Hoops

Remember that one ^  ?

How about this >>>

Oak Park Woman Faces 93-Days in Jail For Planting Vegetable Garden

Nanny laws are cumulative.  It's not just one.  It's thousands all across the country.  It's a ridiculous quest for utopia--the perfect place to live with no annoyances.

A town near me forbids garage sale signs and you have to get a permit to have a garage sale.  This is a upper middle class neighborhood.  No one is running a flea market out of their basement there.

What happened to the days when people said that's stupid --  live with it!

I would bet folding money that most of these laws came fron one or two cranks in each neighborhood that went bitching to the local authorities and they gave in to shut them up instead of bouncing them out of the building.

I live in an HOA and will put my hand on the Bible and offer an Oath that they ARE Nazis!!!

Every Communist/Socialist that wants to create a Utopia where they can order EVERYONE around on a whim.. oh yeah.. they'll find their way naturally onto the board of an HOA.

I too am in a HOA, was on the Board of another several years back and resigned over their rogue behavior.

Right now I ignore them and they stay the hell away from me.

Speaking of being over regulated with ridiculous laws; here's a little gem passed earlier this year in Louisiana...

...what are these idiot lawmakers thinking? If this isn't done intentionally to usher in a totalitarian state, then these morons must have rocks for brains!

http://pajamasmedia.com/blog/a-constitutional-amendment-to-enforce-the-protections-of-mens-rea/?singlepage=true

Quote
According to a recent Wall Street Journal article which detailed many such exemplary abuses, the roster of federal crimes, which stood at 20 in the original criminal act of 1790, has now grown to at least 4500 statutory offenses, with unknown thousands of additional grounds for criminal prosecution contained within obscure regulations generated in ever burgeoning amounts by government agencies.

It has thus become impossible for an ordinary citizen to know what is legal and what is not. In fact, as anyone who has ever tried to assure his or her legal safety by asking for guidance from the IRS or EPA knows, the agencies themselves don’t have a clue, and are prompt to disclaim any immunity to prosecution for actions based upon their own advice.

This does nullify "ignorance of the law is no excuse", whether the authoritahs like it or admit it.  There's no way to know all the laws and what they entail -- none.  Plus, since the courts have decided criminal intent is immaterial, that doesn't matter either.

Larry Shyster could make a living from that thought.  Kidding aside, that helps make the case we should
wipe them all and start over with the original twenty.
