Andy Rooney, 92

Sad for his family and friends.

Andy Rooney Dead at 92
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

That's about the size of it, Soup.

RIP.

May God have mercy on his soul.

I watched one of Rooney's segments on plastic packaging and he displayed a number of tools marketed as the way to gain entry to the actual stuff, with him disgusted with the whole exercise.  One of the few I saw and agreed with.

Rooney's 60 Minutes segments were amusing to watch once..when they were about consumer type frustrations. And by that I really mean once. Because he just wasn't that funny. The joke, repeated, ad nauseum week after week was his only gimmick.

Then, and I don't remember when it exactly happened, he changed from being a grumpy old curmudgeon to an angry (and pathetic) old liberal who was pretty much crabby about anyone and anything that wasn't left wing.

I can't remember him ever portraying himself as happy or joyful about anything in life. Not once.

Heck of a legacy. Heck of an epitaph.

In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.

Did you ever wonder how Andy Rooney typed all of those stories looking through those bushy eyebrows ? It's not like a make-up girl wasn't standing nearby with a pair of scissors . I wonder if Andy had a pair of scissors in his desk but was afraid to use them . Maybe he had a pair of nail clippers in his desk too . Do you suppose Andy trimmed his toenails in his office ? At his age maybe his toenails looked like corn chips . Do you suppose Andy kept a bag of Fritos in his desk ? Or maybe he bit his toenails like my sister did . She had bushy eyebrows too but almost never typed . Did you ever wonder how somebody could go all the way through college and almost never type ? Maybe it's because she was an art major . Art majors almost never type . They don't have to spell very well either . Did you ever wonder who invented "spell check" ?
