Wow...just...WOW!

http://www.express.co.uk/posts/view/284656/Germans-try-to-kill-off-pound

Quote
BRITAIN will soon be forced to scrap the pound and join the euro, one of Germany’s most senior figures said yesterday.

In a chilling threat to UK sovereignty, German finance minister Wolfgang Schauble predicted that all Europe would one day use the single currency. “It will happen perhaps faster than some in the British Isles currently believe,” he said.

I wonder if the UK will be detaching itself from the EU anytime soon...in light of this story?

IIRC, Wolfgang Schauble is Angela Merkel's point man and Germany
is trying to get out of the Euro.  There has been an ongoing argument
in England - "to Euro or not to Euro".  Sounds like Wolfie's intent is to
give England a hot foot to help them get off the blocks.

It could well be CO. If so that would mean that the EU is already failing/failed to the point that it can not be saved and Germany is looking to hasten its exit in order to limit the financial damage to itself. It is therefor, using this to 'hot foot' the UK as you've noted, so that the UK will take the heat for bailing instead of Germany.

I'm convinced at this point that Germany would be just as happy to go back to the Deutsch Mark .

It's always fascinating to see how history has a habit of repeating itself.  The Brits and Germans just can't seem to get along.

I have to admit it's pretty incendiary language coming out of Berlin these days, and the Cameron/Merkel meeting wasn't very cozy.  A united Europe is a pipe dream.

Watching this ill-conceived Socialist experiment slouch, crash, and crumble would at least in part be such a wonderful thing to behold. I never understood how anyone believed that nations that have been at each others throats for centuries; nations whose most notable contributions to one another are the result of war; could ever, ever unite under one banner.

Language, tradition, history, and most importantly, human nature - all these things stand against the Utopian ideals the Socialists have attempted to prop up under the banner of the EU.

The sad part is, this will likely be the ruination of many nations and cultures. And the scourge of Islam is just waiting, child in womb, ready to fill the void left in Socialism's wake.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Ultimately, that is the promise of socialism (in any of it's various forms); poverty and death.

Don't worry. The new Italian government should save the Euro currency.

The new Italian government is going to be looking to save it's own skin and if that means Euro be damned they will move to kill it. All the Euro did for Italy was double every price you can think of for the population from food to housing.

Just as an aside I was talking to my father and he told me that one of the reasons they are so screwed is that people working and retired get paid for 14 months in one calender year. So if you're retired you get 14 checks instead of 12.

Italy's (and by extension Europe's) goose might not be cooked if they had more economists like her:
