Go Don!  I agree, and it's not to late.  We still own most of Iraq
and all we need is a proper perspective, proper ROEs and a good
administrator.   In two generations they will be healthy, educated,
prosperous and able to take care of themselves.

That region is a tender box and Iraq is the hub. Again with the
aforementioned arrangement that region would calm or be calmed.

I see no reason why we shouldn't have a sweetheart deal with Iraq regarding oil. We buy at discount, we assist in their countries re structuring by alleviating threats and encouraging investment. Hell, we could give incentives to do business with and in Iraq.

It is a little troubling to read some of the stories coming from Iraq. Setting up of unlimited pension plans, sharing the oil wealth with its citizens, aparantly, with no work involved, free healthcare, etc. but I'll accept it if the end result could possibly one more quasi stable country in the middle east. People with money in their pocket, especially a war torn, dictator lead hell hole, are not as eager to die for the cause.
