Hysteria. Only in the liberal mind of a public employee could a demand to bring your retirement benefits a degree closer to alignment with those of the people who pay for your livelihood be considered "taking away my retirement".

The internet is the reason they can't get away with their propaganda and spin any longer.  I see it as a form of modern times Enlightenment.  Yes, there's a lot of nonsense and lies to be found, but the Truth is here as well for anyone looking for it and often even when it's being avoided.  I'm inclined to believe that any progress made these days toward wresting control of our lives and liberty from the proglodytes will be owed in part to internet communications.

So, yes; that's why they want control.  It's a tool with which we're kicking their asses.

Oh there is no doubt, the Internet is a game changer on the order of Guttenberg's printing press. Bill Whittle touched on this in that video posted in another thread, but the Internet is fueling the decentralization of information and economics, which is in direct contrast to the existing political order. One of these models is going to give, and my bet is on the centralized model (though it promises to be dangerous in its death throes). The Internet has effectively put "information capital" in the hands of ordinary individuals, and it's an inexorable trend that will wear down the existing order like a river carving granite.
