I've heard that those close to Thatcher are disgusted with the portrayal, and that it is a complete hit-job.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Heard that, but also read Streep does an excellent job. Almost perfect.

I think it all depends on who's history you are reading with that said we will sill have to wait to see it.

And for me that will be when it hits regular TV I refuse to give money to HollyWierd.

My thing for Meryl is that I don't care for Meryl...

What's next?  Alec Baldwin portraying Reagan?

Meryl Streep is a very good actress, so her portrayal of Margaret Thatcher will be either a devastatingly well-done piece of propaganda or one will come away with a new appreciate of The Iron Lady, depending on how the writer and Streep want her seen.

I didn't see her "interpretation" of Julia Child, so ..........

I've read that Streep's portrayal is spot on as far as mannerisms, voice, style, appearance, etc, but that the writing and direction makes Thatcher out to be an eccentric, stupid nutjob. The Reagan caricature applied to Thatcher.

No doubt Streep is a great actress if one is into those hoity-toity dramas and period pieces where everybody speaks with a fake British accent. Not my usual cup o' tea.

I read that the film begins in the present and portrays Thatcher in her current state of ill health, i.e. housebound with dementia. I find it exceedingly tacky to portray a person, especially a living person, in this way.

When will we have a piece of fiction devoted to the philandering and drunkenness of the ol' Kennedy boys? Maybe we can have the climax of the film, where Ted Kennedy -- Lion of the Senate -- stands and watches the last bubbles break the surface as he stumbles off to one of his mansions.

That movie sucked for other reasons, the biggest being that it was split into the Julia Child story and the annoying liberal blogger who decided to write about cooking all of Child's stuff. The Julia Child story is a good one and interesting in its own right. The lefty blogger story is sort of a "who cares?" kind of affair. Child reportedly read parts of the blog and found the woman to be offensive and boorish. Child's work in the OSS during WWII got hardly a mention in this movie and it seems to me that that would have been interesting to illustrate on film.

When we have a film that opens with a scene of Bill Clinton smacking and raping a woman.

This is just another movie I will never see because I already know how bad it will be.  Just like most of the garbage coming out of Hollywood today.
