EPA Regulations Will Close At Least 28 GW of Generating Capacity
« on: December 19, 2011, 02:30:48 PM »
“So if somebody wants to build a coal-fired plant they can. It’s just that it will bankrupt them…”
– Barack Obama speaking to San Francisco Chronicle, January 2008

Quote
Currently, EPA is leading the Obama administration’s assault on coal with a number of new regulations. Two of the most important are the “transport rule” and the “toxics rule” (Utility MACT). Combined, these regulations will systematically reduce access to affordable and reliable energy. According to our report:

...

EPA modeling and power-plant operator announcements show that EPA regulations will close at least 28 gigawatts (GW) of American generating capacity, the equivalent of closing every power plant in the state of North Carolina or Indiana. Also, 28 GW is 8.9 percent of our total coal generating capacity.

Chart and list of plants, and cities/towns, at link.

I have to say, as badly as regulatory overreach has always chafed me since I became politically aware, I never, ever saw this coming. I never imagined that an administration would use regulatory agencies to blatantly and openly circumvent the legislative process, and f**king brag about it along the way.

That the citizenry stands by and allows it to happen without amassing and overrunning bureaucratic branch offices does not bode well.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Its selfish of me, I know, but I feel good that all of those solar dollars didn't go to waste.  I wonder how much of a price increase that will translate into I wonder?

"Selfish of you, you know"?  Don't talk like a moron.  Some of the Leftism in the air must have got to your brain.  You did with YOUR money what you believe will benefit your family and your pocket.

I hope I have sufficiently shocked you back to your usual self.  ::saywhat::   ;D

The selfish part is that I like being right- even when a whole lot of others are going to be hurting. My Liberal neighbors all were asking about the solar ( in town) that I put in, asking how much ($11K asfter you subsidized the cost of the rest, thank you ), and how long the payoff would be ( 10 years assuming 6% annual rate increases) , and how great it was that I was saving the planet. ( Oh no. This isn't about saving the planet. Its is about ensuring that my family has power. Obama promised to bankrupt the coal industry, and I believed him.)  Luckily that neighbor has decided to see if Costa Rica is right for him - took his kids 10, 8 and 5 out of school and went for 6 months. Hopefully he never comes back , god damn socialist fascist.

Everybody likes being right when they're right; anybody else who's going to be hurting, well, it's on them.

I hope your neighbor stays away as well.  I wish all like him would go, take their downloads with them and never come back.  It will save us the trouble of dealing with them.

Today has not been a good day; my infuriation level at the destruction of my country and the lives of my countrymen and their children -- this thread is only one item -- has pegged, pfffft, broken the meter.  These days, when I cry, it's out of rage and helpless frustration, not sadness.

I have to think you're joking. That would be char-coal. Burnt wood. Close, but no cigar. If you are joking, forgive me. I'm on my first cup of java. ::unknowncomic::

I was joking, sorry.  Enjoy the java!

Coal fresh out of the mine is awesome though, and makes good electricity!  And scrubber technology today is so superior, any enviro-nutic concerns are largely rendered moot...but that doesn't stop asshats like them from hating every natural resource fueling our economy, now does it?!
