WI- time for Walker to get off the stick and ACT
« on: March 09, 2011, 02:32:13 PM »
Republicans in the Wisconsin legislature do not need a 3/5ths quorum to pass non-budgetary legislation.

Quote
Gov. Scott Walker previously rejected calls to pass the collective bargaining provisions of the budget bill separately.  Walker's reasoning was that while the collective bargaining provisions in isolation may not be budgetary, they were part of and necessary to budget repair.

Walker's position was not the most politically advantageous, because he left himself at the mercy of the Democratic state Senators who have deprived the state Senate of a quorum by fleeing the state.

It's time for Walker to reconsider because Senate Democrats have no intention of negotiating on collective bargaining, or of returning anytime soon.

One of the fleeing Senators, Lena Taylor has tweeted (h/t JSOnline) that she has filed for an absentee ballot for judicial elections to be held on April 5:

Senate President Scott Fitzgerald sees team Obama behind this:

“We’re really beginning, I think, to believe that this isn’t just about the Wisconsin state Senate or the legislature,” he said. “This is about ties directly from the White House down to many of those that are involved in the recalls, and really how Wisconsin plays out in the next presidential election."

At this point, if there is no breakthrough very soon, there is not much to be lost by splitting the bill, passing collective bargaining reform (perhaps along the lines of compromise proposed by Walker in his e-mails with Democrats) without the need for a quorum, and letting the Senate Democrats stay in Illinois forever if they want to.

They're rapidly losing the initiative (may have already squandered it). The longer this drags on, the more it plays into Dhim hands. Republicans continue to have zero killer instinct.

Most of us here have been screaming about capitalizing on that initiative for going on three weeks now. Dammit.
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Truth.  Obama's proxies are involved in this up to their necks and it's getting worse.  Plus, the WI unions received O'Care waivers as well.

I just keep getting this feeling, with regard to the Republicans, that seldom before has the fate of a proud and free country depended so much on selfless and patriotic statesmen stepping into the breach, yet been so thoroughly let down when the challenge went out.

Churchill immortalized the pilots of the RAF in the Battle of Britain by saying "Never before has so much been owed, by so many, to so few". I always think of that statement now, and how the Republicans are (predictably) proving to be the exact opposite in our own time of great challenge.

Is this enough action for you?  I think I can live with it.

Hard cheese, leftists.

[blockquote]MADISON, Wis. (AP) -- Republicans in the Wisconsin Senate have voted to strip nearly all collective bargaining rights from public workers after discovering a way to bypass the chamber's missing Democrats.

All 14 Senate Democrats fled to Illinois nearly three weeks ago, preventing the chamber from having enough members present to consider Gov. Scott Walker's so-called "budget repair bill" - a proposal introduced to plug a $137 million budget shortfall.

The Senate requires a quorum to take up any measures that spend money. But Republicans on Wednesday split from the legislation the proposal to curtail union rights, and a special conference committee of state lawmakers approved that bill a short time later.

The move set up a vote in the Senate, which voted mere moments later.[/blockquote]

I want everyone to know that I really feel bad for all those idiots who spent the last three weeks camping out at the WI capitol. I'm sure it was all very Woodstock. But it didn't work.

So now I am guessing that they will shift their attention to recall efforts. And since the WI budget still isn't resolved (thanks to the Democrat senators hanging out at some of Illinois' best motels and strip clubs) not a few of them will be laid off soon and will have lots of time on their hands so...I guess they can work on that.

And the rest of them can go back to being complete screw ups at educating kids.

This story rated one flaming skull at AceOfSpades.

There is a possibility that the gov won't sign it. One theory suggests that Walker is using this as leverage to get the fleabaggers to return to work. There are reports that they are returning. So it's still up in the air. Here's hoping that he signs the damn thing and ends this mess.

Argh!  Sign the damn thing!  He's going to piss off the R's that voted to do this if he doesn't.

This is exactly what is wrong with Republicans; they don't know how to WIN.

This guy, Walker, has failed to see that the D's will never respond to any gesture of goodwill with anything like reciprocity. They're gonna' take advantage of him if he doesn't wise-up.

The reasoning goes that the dhimmies content that this vote was fraudulent (or at least improper). To go anywhere they must convince the (Republican) Attorney General to prefer charges (or at least launch an investigation). What other leverage do they have? In order to do much of anything they must appear in person and to do that puts them at risk of apprehension.

So, what if they succeed at invalidating this vote? What next? The pubbies still have the superior numbers. Will they run away again?

The reason why we are all so impatient for Walker to sign this thing is that we don't trust pubbies not to "F" things up. All  too often it seems that we steal defeat from the jaws of victory.

I realize that the slow grind in frustrating but so far Walker & co haven't made any real mistakes and have held strong. Don't give up on them yet!

They should take a cue from football: you gotta quickly snap another play before the other side has a chance to throw out the challenge flag.
