Tony Blankley, 63

I don't know much about Blankley first hand, other than having heard him on talk radio from time to time, or running into his name here and there. If my memory serves me, he was a fairly regular guest on Hugh Hewitt before I stopped listening to Hewitt. It looks like he was involved in quite a bit with which I was unaware.

Ex-Times Editorial Page Editor Tony Blankley dead at 63

Tony Blankley, a noted conservative author and commentator and former editorial page editor of The Washington Times, died late Saturday, according to family sources. He was 63 and had been battling stomach cancer.

Mr. Blankley was an executive vice president of the Edelman public-relations firm in Washington, a visiting senior fellow in national-security communications at the Heritage Foundation, a syndicated newspaper columnist and an on-air political commentator for CNN, NBC and NPR.

He was also a regular weekly guest on “The McLaughlin Group.”

Mr. Blankley was editorial page editor of The Times from 2002 to 2007, and from 1990 to 1997 he served as press secretary and general adviser to former House Speaker Newt Gingrich.

A Loyola University law graduate, he served six years in the Reagan administration in a variety of positions, including speechwriter and senior policy analyst. He also spent 10 years as a prosecutor with the California attorney general’s office....

"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

I'm sorry to hear of his passing. he was a reliable conservative voice (often the only conservative voice) on McLaughlin and a very affable character.

RIP Tony

I always enjoyed watching Tony on the McLaughlin Group.  He was sharp, smart, and a reliable voice for conservatives on a panel not noted for them.  He also had a great sense of humor, much to the chagrin of Eleanor Clift.  That alone was worth watching.

RIP Tony - the Group won't be the same.

Aw Tony, you and Raul Julia, stomach cancer.

Tony Blankley general adviser to House Speaker Newt Gingrich.
How many people does Newt take advice from, ever?

You were a good man, honest and true.
May God's grace surround you and bring you home.
RIP.

One of the good guys. One of the few conservative voices in the MFM. Sure wish it had been Eleanor Clift instead.
In a doomsday scenario, hippies will be among the first casualties. So not everything about doomsday will be bad.
