Blues legend Etta James

Don't know much about her music personally. I guess I'll have to find out...

Legendary blues singer Etta James dies at 73
"A strict observance of the written laws is doubtless one of the high duties of a good citizen, but it is not the highest. The laws of necessity, of self-preservation, of saving our country when in danger, are of higher obligation. To lose our country by a scrupulous adherence to written law, would be to lose the law itself, with life, liberty, property and all those who are enjoying them with us; thus absurdly sacrificing the end to the means."

Heard that on radio, struggled with drugs.  She had a powerful voice.  Too bad.  RIP.

She was an extraordinary talent and I for one will miss her. Her song "I'd Rather Be Blind" still gives me goose bumps.

Wow. That is awesome. As I said earlier, I was unfamiliar with her, other than having heard her name before, and knowing that she was an old-school blues singer. Now in hearing it, it seems so obvious to me how she influenced others in the genre. Take that Amy Winehouse chick that died last year for instance. Listen to her, and you can hear Etta James jumping right out of her voice.

She was the first "break through" and one of the greatest R&B artists ever.

RIP Etta.
