The Obama Administration boasted today about forcing religious institutions to cover free contraception to employees including abortion drugs.

The boasting came via a Sebelius announcement.

Quote
Catholic leaders previously voiced their opposition to the new Obamacare regulations that force faith groups to violate church tenets and pay for employees’ birth control. The new rules are so strict that most Catholic institutions will not qualify for an exemption.

How many "Catholic institutions" were fighting tooth and nail against Obamacare?  I don't know, so I can't say, but for those who, in the interest of the pore&starvin' and "social justice" theology, were in favor, well, tsktsk; "how d'you like me now?"

I can understand why the Church believes its religious liberty is at risk, and it is, but the impositions and infringements on individual liberty have already been ongoing, imposed by the States themselves, in mandating that private medical insurance MUST provide and pay for birth control "services".

Obamacare just made all of these egregiousnesses that much worse.

Do all states have this service requirement and is what qualifies as this service also delineated?  The Church could take this as an opportunity to draw folks back in, I don't
think they will.

I don't know that "all" have it, Charles; I know that many do, as NC does, as well as other mandated "services".  This is what keeps Medical Insurance from being a ready choice in many States; the mandates have to be provided and some companies choose to not compete as a result.

Correct me if I'm wrong.

The Fed says if a company wants to issue a policy in any of the
fifty seven states it must offer contraceptive services, if it chooses
not to offer contraceptive services it may not issue a policy.

Or is it up to the state to decide whether that service may or may
not be required?

Not trying to be cranky just want to know which of these two snakes
to be a little more fed up with.

That's recent, under Obamacare.

This is the way things were before Obamacare.

It's confusing, so, no problem.

I suggest you be pissed at both snakes.

Let the court battles begin!!

They have. EWTN, the Catholic Network I have mentioned before, has filed suit. Two other suits are pending as well I think.

They will win. I have no doubt of that

The fact is that Stymie wants to kill off insurance companies completely . Why else would he insist that they cover pre-existing conditions ... a killer for any health insurance program which necessarily must weigh the risk of coverage and assign premiums accordingly ? It's the very nature of the insurance business that they assume risk ... suicide is something very different .

It's no different than telling an insurance company they must insure a home that is already on fire. It is indeed a transparent effort to destroy private insurance, and it is just the first target of many. The ultimate goal is to not only entice citizens onto the entitlement plantation, but to force them onto it by actively denying them any alternative.

I must hand it to obama.....every time, with every edict, I think....Can it get any worse?......Oh, but it does.....

I believe my son said it best to me the other day. obama is treating America like a toilet bowl. He's shoveling so much chit in it and we may flush him in a few months, but he is leaving a giant swirly to clean up.

I think the toilet is clogged up and stuff is starting to spill onto the floor now...and the size of this toilet and the volume of mess ensures a full clean up will be near impossible to achieve...
