The point of the "justice system" today is to protect the "rights" of the criminal, not to protect the public at large.

The guy is nuts.  Nutty people are often made better by the right drugs, but often will stop taking the un-nutty-making drugs when they feel better, and his mother, if this is the case with Hinckley, is not going to be able to properly police him.

I'm sorry he's sick and I'm sorry his mother got stuck with him as a son but sometimes that's what life hands people and pretending otherwise doesn't help anyone and pretty much guarantees someone will get hurt.
